Kit's POV

I look up at the clock with my face feeling a bit dry from the tears that have been running down my face for the last few days that I've stayed in my room. Luckily, we haven't had any cases or training sessions in the previous few days. I've just been lying here in blankets, gross tissues, and empty wrappers. At this point, I've cried and ached so much that I feel numb.

I've been in my room for the last few days because my long-distance boyfriend broke up with me. All because the distance was killing him, and he didn't like my living work situation. He was jealous and kept arguing that I was cheating on him with my detective partner, Sam. Sam kept checking on me; I kept telling him I was fine and didn't need anything, but I don't think he believed me.

But my other friends keep blowing up the group chat on my phone. Jill, Jules, Cubby, Barb, Wally, and I all have a group chat together called the Girls Gossip Group. They all keep saying that I need to get out and forget the last 2 years of my life with the guy who just dumped me. They might be on to something, but I don't feel like going out or doing anything.

I hear another knock on my door. I expect to be Sam again because he knocks every few hours to make sure I'm alive or something. He's been overly friendly the last few days. I never told him what happened, but I'm sure someone in the group chat did. I hear the knock again, then the yelling.

" Kit, if you don't open this door, I will knock it down!" Jules, of course. I grone loud enough for her to hear me. We've been friends since childhood, and caught back up here at CLADE. She's one of the on-site doctors.

"I'm fine, would you people leave me alone?" I tell her through the door. Then I hear another voice through the door.

"Come on, Kit, this might make you feel better," Jill claims, but she's always one for music, which is probably why she makes her own kind of music with Bill.

I walk over to the door and open it, in days-old pajamas and smelling horrible. They definitely notice as well, because they are both in shock by my opening the door, then looking past me to see my room. Jules is the first one to speak," Yeah, you're coming with us tonight."

"What do you mean by coming with you?" I ask with a bit of an attitude.

"There's a party tonight on the other side of the island. It's at Larry Lama Bar." Jill exclaims as she and Jules walk into the room a bit more.

"No," I tell them. "No way, I'm fine staying here in this room until I have to go to work," I tell them as I walk over and plop back onto my bed. They both look at each other and close the door behind them. They slowly walk over to me and give me that look. The one that says I have no choice in the matter. "Fine, I'll go. But I am not dressing up." They both smile at me, which means that if I don't do it willingly, they will do it for me.

"Look, Kit, you've got to remember we'll both be there and you won't be alone. You're the Kit Casey, no one is as good as you are." Jules says, trying to cheer me up.

"Yeah, you are one of the bravest, kindest foxes we've ever known, and no one knows other animals as you do," Jill says as I sit up to listen to them.

"Thanks, guys. I don't know what I would do without friends like you." I tell them and give them hugs.

"Yeah, but you can't forget Sam." Jill continues.

Jules adds, "That's true, he keeps asking what's wrong because you haven't answered the door in days."

"And you live in the same apartment as him." Jill finishes. I look at both of them, rubbing the back of my neck.

"Did you even tell him what happened?" Jules asks me while putting her hands on her hips.
