I remember once when I told you that we would have to run away, so we could be free. Free from the government, free from our families and free from the suffering.
You said that we should meet at dawn right before the sun would come up our little town would wake. But as I stood there, waiting for you under the willow tree, time passed and you never showed. So I left alone without telling a single soul where I was going. It didn't feel right to leave without you but I couldn't risk being caught. Not when I left goodbye notes behind for my little sister and my big brother.
Our little town seemed so peaceful and quiet as I turned my back to it. It wasn't yet filled with soldiers standing guard and the government taking control once again as a new day rose.
And I left to go north like I told you we would. Now I did the trip without you by my side. To be free, alone.
