„Yes, we truly couldn't be happier." I ended my speech with a light smile. Fiyero stared at me, mouth half opened, eyes widened in disbelief. The realization hit him like a gunshot.
„This is an ENGAGEMENT PARTY?", he blurted out.
„Indeed, my dear", Morrible joined the conversation. „Glinda and I thought, you'd welcome this little surprise.
„I-Galinda-"
„It's Glinda now", I cut him off with a hiss.
„I'm sorry, Glinda-Madam Morrible, would your highness approve, if I go and talk to Ga-Glinda in a more private location?", he requested politely.
„Sure, my dearies, you two go, everything is under my control", Morrible nodded with a smile so sweet, I wanted to throw up right on her burgundy gown.
Fiyero grabbed my arm and dragged me from the magnificent balcony right through a long emerald hallway. He hurt my elbow, but i didn't say anything. I had never seen him so angry, eyes squinted, quite literally shooting fire at me.
The three wrinkles on his face, that only appeared, when he was failing in a difficult exam.
But exams and the times, where I studied every single one of his mezmerizing facial expressions, all the different gestures he used to do while arguing or exhilaratingly narrating a story, were long ago.
Eventually he pushed me into a dark and claustrophobic small chamber full of cleaning utensils and dust. An intense smell of mold made me almost throw up again and I coughed.
Fiyero shot an outraged look at me.
„Why are you doing this to me, Galinda?"
„It's Glinda now, you idiot", I mumbled more to myself
He still heard it.
„I do not care! I do not care if it's Galinda or Glinda! That doesn't change who you are in your core and you know that too. You are still the same selfish girl, whose only purpose of living is popularity. Do you even listen to yourself while giving those speeches?"
It started burning behind my eyes but I swallowed hard, to make the feeling of tiny needles go away. No, the truth was, I wasn't listening to myself.
I wasn't really the one attending those public events. It felt like a nice and tiny puppet version of me; a doll with heavy makeup, pulled by the strings in Morrible's and the wizard's hands.
I disliked-hated-loathed myself for the scripted excuses and lies I told the hopeful Ozians, those innocent naive children, who glared at me with nothing but pure admiration in their tiny faces.
„You are talking about a human being, is your stupid blonde head even aware of that?", Fiyero raised his voice, violently forcing me out of my own, not less violent thoughts.
„You're talking about Elphaba-Elphie-your roommate, your friend, your...best friend." The way he hesitated made me know, that he had wanted to say something else.
„Not getting on this ozdamned broom-fine-but this?!" He made a gesture with his arms, as if he was trying to encompass this whole emerald palace into it.
„Fiyero I-"
„And you're putting me in this situation, you planned a whole damn engagement, without informing me, as if I was just a little toy in your plan, or whatever this is." He shook his head in disbelief.
I almost scoffed at the sheer irony.
„Fiyero, I'm sorry-", I whined after a moments of silence, just an old clock ticking, somewhere hidden in this uncomfortable store room.
