Nandhini Moorthy stood near the doorway of the hall, her hands trembling around the coffee tray. Her parents were talking excitedly, the groom’s family was seated politely, and everyone looked so happy except her.

Her heart had never moved on.
Not even after all these years.

She still loved him.
Her childhood classmate.
Her first crush.
The only boy she ever wanted Manik.

But she had never told anyone.
Not him.
Not her parents.
Not even her sisters.

“Go, kanna… give the coffee,” her mother nudged softly.

Nandhini walked in with her head low, eyes fixed on the floor. She didn’t dare look at the groom. She couldn’t allow herself to hope, nor could she accept someone else. The conflict inside her was burning.

“Ask the girl to see the groom,” someone said.

But Nandhini didn’t lift her face.

“It’s okay,” the groom said gently. “I want to talk to her alone.”

Her mother pushed her lightly.
She followed him, still staring at the tiles, her breath uneven.

They stepped into the balcony. A small breeze touched her hair.

The groom turned to her.
He lifted her chin softly.

She immediately squeezed her eyes shut, refusing to look.

“Nandhini Moorthy…” he said, a voice filled with teasing warmth.

Her heart stopped.

“Now also you are very cute.”

Her eyes flew open.

It was him.
Manik.

Her Manik.
Her long-lost love.
Standing right in front of her as her groom.

The tears came instantly, spilling down before she could even speak. A small sob escaped her, and her hand flew to her mouth.

Manik didn’t wait. He pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly, as if gathering all the years they had missed.

She froze for a moment then clutched him back with all the strength she had, burying her face in his chest. She kissed his cheeks, forehead, nose in tiny, trembling kisses, crying and smiling at once.

“How did you even think,” he murmured against her hair, “that I’m going to lose you? Give you to another boy? Never, Ms. Moorthy.”

He pulled back slightly and looked into her eyes.

“I love you.”

A fierce blush shot up her cheeks.
“Oye… say something,” he teased.

“I love you too… idiot,” she whispered, hitting his chest lightly before hugging him again.

Manik lifted her face slowly.
His eyes dropped to her lips.
He waited.

“May I?” he asked softly.

Nandhini’s breath caught. She only nodded.

He leaned in and kissed her slow, deep, and full of every unsaid feeling from their school days till now. His hand cupped her jaw gently, guiding her closer as she held his shirt tightly. The kiss felt like coming home, like the years of silence melting away. It wasn’t rushed it was warm, tender, and overflowing with love.

When they finally pulled apart, both were smiling like they’d discovered their world again.

Hand in hand, they returned to the hall and said yes to the marriage. Their parents were overjoyed, unaware of the love story already written between the two.

Years later…

Nandhini closed her wedding album as her six-year-old daughter, Manvi, lay beside her, listening with wide eyes.

“But amma… how did appa come to your house to fix marriage?” Manvi asked. “He didn’t know you love him, no?”

Nandhini smiled and kissed her daughter’s cheek.

“Your appa decided I am his wife long back. He just waited till he finished his dream. After that, he took my contact and asked for this alliance himself. And yes… he knew I liked him in school too.”

Before she could say more, the power suddenly went off.

Darkness swallowed the room.

“Manvi?” Nandhini whispered, panic rising immediately.
She stood, her hands shaking.
“Manvi! Manvi, where are you?”

Her eyes filled with tears.

Suddenly,

The lights blinked back on.

And she froze.

Manik stood at the entrance in his army uniform, holding Manvi in one arm, grinning from ear to ear.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MRS. MALHOTRA!” he shouted.

Nandhini ran to him and slapped his shoulder lightly.
“You scared me!”

He chuckled. “Worth it.”

Manvi hugged both her parents tightly.

“What do you want to eat?” Nandhini asked, still emotional.

Manik leaned in, whispering playfully,
“I’m going to eat you.”

She gasped and hit him again.
“Manvi is here, stupid!”

He winked.
“So? Close your eyes, Ms. Moorthy… I’ll handle the rest.”

Nandhini blushed and hid her face in his chest, Manvi giggling between them as their small family wrapped into one warm hug.
