First Day Back

Paige's POV 

summer of the 2024-2025 season

"Yo Paige you up for one more?" My little brother Drew called

Drew and Bob (Paige's dad) had just finished helping me move back into my dorm room, in Hilltop Halls. Drew and I had been goofing around in the practice gym for about an hour now playing some 1on1.

"I was born ready but you sure you can keep up this time?" I asked with a smirk. 

"I literally won last time." Drew argued

"Sure." I said shaking my head. 

They played some more not really keeping track of the score just exchanging baskets and trash talk like usual.

"And one." I said after making a very skeptical looking jumper.

Just then my phone rang and I ran over passing Drew the ball. I fished around in my bag until I  finally felt the smoothness of my phone screen. I grabbed it and saw that it was my dad. 

"Is it your little girlfriend Azzi?" Drew said in a mocking girl voice. 

"Shut up and no its Dad." I said matching his tone.

I answered the call and put it on speaker phone.

"Hey Dad." I said while glaring at Drew who was still smirking.

"Hey hon I just finished loading the car with me and your brothers stuff and I'm heading back to pick you guys up now." Bob said

"Noooooo." Drew called sadly.

"Sorry bud, I know you guys are having fun but the flight back to Minnesota is at 4." Bob replied not really sounding that sorry.

"K, Dad we'll see you in a couple of minutes."  I said as I hung up.

"Do we have to go?" Drew asked well giving me puppy eyes. 

"Yes and stop looking at me like that you look really stupid." I said as I snapped a quick photo of him.

"Hey delete that right now." He called as I unlaced my shoes.

"No." I replied

We packed up and left the gym. As we were walking out we saw Aaliyah walking into the training center.

"Hey Aaliyah hows it going," I called getting her attention.

"Good good just finished unpacking what about you," Aaliyah replied

"Yeah I got here yesterday." I answered back

Drew had been dragging his feet behind me definitely a little upset that he couldn't stay longer , but his whole mood changed when he saw one of my teammates. 

"Little man what's up?" Aaliyah said more excitedly then when she had seen me.

"Aaliyah." he said as he gave her a hug.

We stood there talking a bit more before hearing a honk. I turned around and it was Dads car.

"Bye Liyah my dad is here." I said motioning behind me at the car.

"Bye P, nice seeing you again Drew," Aaliyah said with a little wave. 

Me and Drew walked to the car and I got into the passenger side. We rode back to the apartments talking here and there about what we did at the gym. Drew kept insisting he won, it was a lie me and my dad both knew that but let him believe what he wanted. My dad parked and we all stepped out of the car. 

"Bye guys thanks for all your help this weekend!" I said while giving my dad and Drew big hugs. 

"No problem P, good luck and well see you soon hopefully." Bob said with a smile.

"Hopefully yeah."I said returning his smile

"Bye Paigey, i'll miss you." Drew said quietly

"Bye buddy i'll miss you too and i'll call you okay." I answered with a soft smile.

Drew gave one last hug.

"Tell me everything you don't want to tell dad, and i'll talk to him to see if you can fly out when the rest of the team is back." I whispered into Drew's ear.

"That would be awesome Paige." Drew said happily 

Then Drew and Bob got back into the car and pulled out of the parking lot. I watched them until I couldn't see the car anymore. Then I headed into the apartments with my backpack slung over my shoulder and a basketball tucked into my arm. I stood in the elevator looking at stupid reels on Instagram as it climbed to my floor. I got out and made my way down the hallway until I stopped in front of  my dorm number. I stood there mentally preparing myself for whats to come because I was rooming with KK, Aubrey and Nika. I opened the door knowing it wouldn't be locked because KK never locks it to find a very heated game of Fortnite. 

"Aubrey why would you kill me we were supposed to be on the same team." KK screamed while slamming her controller down onto the couch. 

"Because you were trying to kill me earlier." Aubrey argued making a good point.

I shut the door and put my backpack onto a stool by the kitchen counter. Just then KK glanced my way and I knew I was in trouble.

"Paige your back." She screamed. 

"Hi KK, hi Aubrey."

Just then Aubrey died in the game too. 

"Ha Karma bitch, next time don't kill me." KK said all smug.

 Aubrey slumped back into the couch cushions setting her controller down beside KK's. That's when I finally looked around to see boxes everywhere some empty and some full. 

"I take it Nika hasn't arrived yet, and also this place looks like a tornado hit it." I said  Scrunching my nose.

"No Ice isn't here yet and also we didn't what to put everything away so we left it." KK answered

"Who else has arrived?" I asked just wanting to know if she was here yet.

"Azzi, Carol, Morgan and Ashlyn, are all here and there directly below us." Aubrey answered her "And Nika should be getting here any moment." Aubrey continued.

"Ok." I said feeling even happier knowing Azzi was here.

Just then the door opened and i turned around.

"TWIN your here." I said practically throwing myself at Nika

"Yes I am you seem excited to see me Paige." Nika said as she dropped her backpack and let go off her suitcase.

We let Nika get settled before starting to put everything away. Which was just Nika and Aubrey well me and KK argued about what song to put on. Finally everything was put away and I headed to my room at the end of the hall.
