TWO EVILS

00. ZERO : two evils

The first time Grier Rowe met Finnick Odair was when he was fourteen years old. He was so young, so innocent, so vulnerable, and it was her job to turn him into a killing machine.

Grier was only fifteen when she won her title as Victor. And there she was, just sixteen years old, mentoring the next victims of the capitol's game. Finnick and Cora. She hated the fact that the capital turned kids into ruthless murderers, herself included.

She knew how to do so much more than she did the year before. She knew where the perfect spot was if you wanted to stab someone in the neck. She knew the exact force needed to break someone's neck, and she knew how to take someone down who was hundreds of pounds heavier than her. Grier was a natural born killer.

Grier was never very kind to begin with which made some question if she was really a career or not. But in reality, she was just a girl from District four who embraced her only instinct to survive.

Her mentor, Kimber, was the one to first know about her true talents. He was the one that kept her alive, trained her to open up her natural born talent. One of the rules he would always say was 'don't get attached to anyone' and she didn't. That one rule was the last thing Kimber told her before being sent up into the arena and that's exactly what she did.

Grier could never explain the relief she felt when she stabbed her machete into the heart of her last opponent, a career from District 1. It was something only victors ever felt because it was a sick kind of relief. It was a type of relief that made you extremely happy to be alive until the guilt starts to creep up and all you can do is force a smile and say you're alright.

She never wanted that fate on anyone, but she didn't want her own tributes to die. In a short period of time, Grier was able to tell who would make it out of the arena most likely alive. Finnick Odair: the boy who was as fast as a shark in water.

Although she would never admit it, Grier cried when she sent both her tributes out to the cold unforgiving arena. She cried when Cora had died from a knife to the neck, and she cried in relief when Finnick stabbed his last opponent, officially making him victor. The youngest victor ever at the age fourteen.

After that, Finnick had become the darling of the capital, leaving Grier in the shadows of the past. But it's not like she was complaining. She wanted anything to get away from the life of the capitol but as soon as you get into the games there's no escaping. She'd always be stuck in the hunger games arena for the capital in one way or another.

After ten years of mentoring one failed tribute after another, the upcoming year was a special one. It was a Quarter Quell, which meant that the rules could be different if they wanted and President Snow decided to drop a bomb on the districts.

When President Snow released the news that the tributes would be pulled from the existing pool of victors, she didn't cry, she didn't go on a rampage, she just simply stared at the screen in a state of shock. It was a kind of unfathomable event because she shouldn't have to go through the games again. It was the one thing she was afraid of. She was afraid of the fact that if she got back into a ruthless mode, she would never come back down from it. Grier was afraid of herself.

During the reaping, the odds were not exactly in her favor. It was one out of three. Her, Annie, and Mags. And in the end it was a mentor and her tribute. Grier and Finnick. They were the ruthless duo that would stop at nothing to get out of the rule of the capitol.

I'm pretty sure Grier is going to be a badass af character. Just saying. Also, this is reposted and revamped a little.
