Weeks passed, and their days became filled with shared laughter, home-cooked meals, and late-night talks. They were living like a quiet, happy couple — until one weekend when Meerabh’s parents arrived with her younger sister, Saba.
Her father, Waqas Ahmedl, was a man of few words but strong presence, protective and watchful. Her mother, Anila, was softer, understanding, but no less sharp.

Murtasim greeted them politely, but waqas eyes studied him deeply — every gesture, every word. While her father spoke to Murtasim in the living room, her mother took Meerabh aside.

Anila “So, beta… you like him, don’t you?”
Meerabh froze.
Meerabh: “Mom… I— I don’t know.”
Anila(smiling knowingly): “You’re my daughter. I can see it in your eyes.”
Meerabh (blushing): “Mom, it’s not like that… I just—”
Anila: “You’re in love with him.”

Meerabh’s eyes dropped. Slowly, she nodded. Meerabh: “Yes, Mom. I love him. But… I haven’t told him yet.”
Anila(gently): “Beta, he doesn’t remember his past. What if somewhere out there… someone’s waiting for him? A wife, a fiancée… maybe even a child?”
Those words hit her like a storm.
Meerabh’s hands trembled.
Meerabh: “No, Mom… he doesn’t wear any ring—”
Anilai: “Men don’t always wear them. I just don’t want you to break when he remembers everything.”
Tears rolled down Meerabh’s cheeks.
She hugged her mother tightly, sobbing.
Meerabh: “I can’t lose him, Mom…”
Anila: “And I can’t see you broken, beta.”That night, she cried alone — for the first time admitting to herself how deeply she loved him.

After her parents left, Meerabh began avoiding Murtasim. She left early for the hospital and returned late, claiming extra shifts.Murtasim noticed the change — the silence, the distance, the cold politeness.

One night, after Saba had gone to sleep, he waited in the living room. When Meerabh entered, surprised to see him awake, she frowned.
Meerabh: “You didn’t sleep yet? You shouldn’t stay up late.”
Murtasim: “I couldn’t. I wanted to talk to you.”
Meerabh (avoiding his eyes): “There’s nothing to talk about.”
Murtasim (firmly): “There is. You’ve been avoiding me, Meerabh. Tell me what’s wrong.”She took a deep breath — then turned to him, tears glistening in her eyes.
Meerabh: “I love you, Murtasim. I just… love you.”He froze, then a slow, relieved smile appeared on his face.He stepped closer, gently cupping her face.
Murtasim: “Then what’s the problem? I love you too.”
Her tears fell harder.

Meerabh: “What if you have a family somewhere? What if you already belong to someone? When you regain your memory… you’ll forget me. I’ll just be a chapter you move past.”
Murtasim (softly): “Meerabh…”
Meerabh (sobbing): “I don’t want to be someone’s mistake, Murtasim. Please… let’s stop all this before it’s too late.”

Before he could say anything more, she turned and ran to her room, locking the door behind her.He stood there, heartbroken, her words echoing in his head.
“What if you’ll forget me…”
That night, sleep didn’t come to either of them.Because deep down, both knew — the real storm was yet to come.

Murtasim got himself busy in his new job. He understood Meerabh’s fears and her silence, but for him, staying away from her—even under the same roof—was unbearable. Every glance, every word she spoke lingered in his heart.
So one evening, he made a decision. Maybe distance would ease the ache. Maybe if he left, she could live peacefully.

When Meerabh came home, she found him packing his bag.
M: (softly) You’re home early…
Mee: (confused) What are you doing? These bags… where are you going?
M: I’m leaving, Meerabh.
Mee: (shocked) Leaving? But… why?
M: I understand your point, Meerabh. You have your reasons. But I can’t keep suffering from your silence and your ignorance. I think it’s better if I leave.
Mee: (firmly) No! You are not leaving. And that’s final.
M: But, Meerabh…
Mee: (teary-eyed yet teasing) No way! You are my hostage now!
M: (amused) Hostage?
Mee: Yes, you’re rich, aren’t you? So I’ll ask your family for ransom! — she said dramatically, trying to hide her tears behind a forced smile.
