"Ummm... Actually I can't find a ride, due to this thunderstorm" I sighed under my breath
"Ohh" he said while making an "oh" face He continued,
"Can I give you a ride back home then?" He said softy while looking at me
I had no choice to say no this time.
"Umm... sure" I said.
He smiled and show me the way towards his car.
The rain was pouring harder now, as we hurried toward the parking area.
The umbrella barely did its job. The wind kept pushing the rain sideways, and by the time we reached his car, the hem of my trousers was already soaked and muddy a little bit.
Abeer unlocked the car, quickly opening the passenger door for me before getting in on his side.
For a few seconds, there was only the sound of the rain hammering the windshield loud and filling the awkward silence that neither of us seemed to break.
He started the engine, which left a soft hum mixed with the rhythmic swish of the wipers.
I watched the blurred lights of the city through the window, droplets racing each other down the glass.
My heartbeat was pounding really fast.
"Do you have your address saved on the map?" he asked in a calm tone, eyes still on the road.
"Yeah," I nodded, pulling my phone out to guide him, but he gently said, "It's fine. Just tell me where to go."
Something about his tone, steady, patient made my chest tighten for no reason at all.
During the journey, neither of us spoke. The silence wasn't surprising uncomfortable....
I glanced at him once. The soft glow from the moonlight brushed across his face, catching the faint crease on his forehead. His jaw was sharp, as he drove through the smooth streets. He is immensely handsome, the kind of man who doesn't even have to try,his presence did all the talking.
He looked different. Older, calmer and somehow, colder. But there was still something about him, something familiar that was enough to make my heart flutter.
He cleared his throat.
"So... how's everyone, huh?"
I let out a small awkward laugh, trying to ease the tension.
"Yeah. Everyone is fine" He smiled. That smile, I missed a lot.
"Good to know"
"Hmm," I muttered while nodding. I looked away.
Another stretch of silence followed, but this one felt lighter.
When we finally reached my apartment, the rain had softened into a drizzle. I turned to thank him, hand on the door handle, when he said,
"Ariya."
I paused, looking at him.
"Next time," he said softly but in a serious tone , looking at me now, "don't wait around if you're in a problem or need some help, just call me."
He continued, "Don't forget, I was your best friend, so don't hesitate to ask anything from me. And take my number, it's +1 XYZ 555 X2YZ".
AUTHOR HERE 😋 (just to clarify that this number is " +1 XYZ 555 X2YZ " New York one Back to the story. .)
My heart stuttered for a second.
I nodded and took my phone out to save his number, as I was done I said thank you.
"No issues riya, goodnight" he smiled
Oh that nickname ! I tried to calm my heartbeat down but it didn't work.
"Goodnight, Abeer," I said softly before stepping out.
