There is one thing that Giyu hates, survivors' guilt. He has had it all his time being a Hashira and now, after every demon was slayed, he still has it. It haunts him everyday, the guilt of having all his Hashira friends dead. It's horrible. But one person keeps him on his feet and makes him smile everyday, his husband Sanemi Shinazugawa.
"Sanemi, I'm home dear!"
Giyu called from the door. He just got back from the store and went to the kitchen. He remembered that Sanemi went to go see Uzui for cooking recipes but he thought he would be home by now. It has been a long time since the war had happened, Giyu started losing count of the days that he hasn't been able to feel the poking of Shinobu, or the nice presence of Gyomei, or Obanai sneaking up on him and making mean remarks. He was starting to forget some of their faces, especially Rengoku's. He missed Kanroji's cute hair and chirpy voice, and Muichiro's small quiet steps. He missed them, more than anything. He started to put the stuff away and when he was finished he went to their room. He went to the small altar that he and Sanemi made and prayed, he prayed that they were happy, and he prayed for help, help to not have the guilt weighing on his shoulders. He didn't know he was crying until he felt the warm large hand that he always remembered.
"Sanemi? I thought you were still at Uzui's?" He said as he wiped his tears, not looking at him.
"I just got home. I saw you got food for dinner" Sanemi said, trying to change the subject.
"Yeah, um I can start cooking now. Did you get the notes from Uzui?" He asked, finally turning to him with a soft smile. Samemi had only one thing he hated about his husband, the softest smile meant he was hiding the most things.
"What's wrong?" Sanemi asked, with a stern look on his face.
"What do you mean? I'm fine, Sanemi," Giyu said.
"That smile means you are hiding something, tell me what's wrong. Now" Sanemi said, this time his voice got a bit louder.
"Sanemi, I'm fine, stop worrying about me." Giyu said, looking away and standing up.
"Giyu, stop lying to me!" Sanemi was yelling now. He grabbed onto his shoulder and stopped him.
"Why do you always walk away? It pisses me off! You did this when we were Hashira and now you still do it. Just talk to me!" Sanemi was yelling at this point.
"Sanemi, just stop, there's no use in worrying about me, I told you I'm fine."
