Those words struck me like a two-pronged sword. One striked me for the foolish things I did,one for the good.
I loved her with all I had,but I had dreams for myself, too. Her mother hated for that reason-leaving her.She must've hidden all those mail I sent.Vanessa didn't get to read it.When I came back to New Jersey, she was gone. Her Mom told me zip about her wherabouts.I returned to New York to finish my degree,I was set to find her after that.
Now she's in front of me,close to tears.I made my way to get here, and now I'm rejected.
"All the letters I sent, you didn't read them? Your Mom,she hid them." I explained, seeking forgiveness.
"No,Clyde. It's too late." she said,as Bryce appeared into the scene.
"What's going on here?" he asked hysterically. He turned to Vanessa."Why are you crying?"
Vanessa walked away wiping off the tears off her eyes, avoiding the chaos.I don't want to be the one to explain all this.Bryce looked at me with utter confusion. "What happened between you two?"
"Bryce," I said,close to a whisper. "It's Vanessa."
It took a second or two before it dawned to him.
"Vanessa, the one you're looking for? Your Vanessa?"
I stared at him blankly.
"Man," he paused in between. "I'm sorry.I thought it was just a coincidence that she's also named Vanessa.Never thought you were related."
I doubt what he just said.He knew I was looking for a girl named 'Vanessa'.He had told me nothing about it,which is suspicious.I patted him on the back. "I gotta go."
"So soon?"
"I have nothing else to do here.I've found her, there's no reason to stay.I'm rejected."
Alvira went out of the shop and looked from right to left. She's looking for me.
"You gotta stay.Look at her." He referred to Alvira."She won't reject you,for sure. She has always been there,by your side.
He gave me a friendly punch on the shoulder,a sign of encouragement.
"I'll just slap some sense to my girlfriend. She has to make it clear to me,in every detail." Then he left off,and followed Vanessa.
I felt weak as I watched Alvira walked down the shop's front porch, pacing like a lost puppy, wondering where I'd gone to.
Now she's the one who's finding the missing.I didn't want her to feel what I felt, the feeling of loss and rejection.
I didn't see what was right in front of me.I guess I was looking in the wrong places.
I was searching for love that wasn't really existent. Now I learned that love is always present. You can feel it,as if it's always there, even if the one who expresses it is in someplace, somewhere you can't see.Now I saw,I felt, and I found it.It was just there, always.
I ambled to her, slowly, regaining my balance. My weakness had transformed to strength.I felt strong enough to face her now.I'm craving for love and warmth.Alvira had just that.
I was a few steps away from her,and she gaped at me from a distance. She gave a questioning look, wondering why I was walking strange like that.
"Clyde?" she said.
I wrapped her in my arms just after that.I had wanted to kiss her,but I forced myself not to.I'm afraid she'd get frightened or I might scare her away.A simple hug is enough.I didn't want her to think she was a rebound.I was too stupid,I didn't realize sooner.
"Clyde?" she asked once again.
"I found her.She's Bryce's girlfriend."
Alvira attempted to break away from my arms, but I held tighter."You mean Vanessa? How could they have met?"
"I wish I know,but I don't care about that now.She had found someone new."
"Clyde, would you let me go?I need to breathe." Alvira was gasping for air.
I broke away at once. That was too much,I guess.
"Where are they now?How did Brcye react?Did he know all along?" Alvira fired questions.
"Nope,he just found out. They are talking about it now. They're in the shop right now."
Alvira tried to peek at the glass border, however, they were blurred.
"I'm sorry." I muttered slowly.
"For what?"
I missed a beat before answering. "I didn't realize sooner,I only got hurt.I didn't-"
"It isn't anyone's fault.Don't blame yourself." She broke in.
I swallowed the lump in his throat.I have to let things go.I no longer have to carry the pain of losing someone. Not long after I realized a tear had fallen on my cheek and Alvira walked closer to wipe it off.Her face was so near to mine, and we could feel each other's breaths.I knew she had good intentions. She was about to step away, but I wanted this moment to linger.
I leaned closer and caught her lips.It only lasted for two seconds. It seemed much longer.
Alvira
I felt the flush spread on her cheeks. She had never been kissed before. Now she knew what it felt like.
"Why. . .?" I asked, wondering why he kissed me all of a sudden.
"You're better than Vanessa, you didn't leave me alone.I loved you for that."
It felt overwhelming. We have only met for merely a week.I admitted I was a bit attracted to him,but never thought he also did.Maybe he's still confused about his feelings.
"You sure?" I asked.
He looked at me in question.
"How could I not be so sure?I don't love Vanessa anymore, since I realized you were there."
His eyes grew weak and soft.I know he's telling the truth.I don't mind falling in love with him.He leaned closer and gave me a hug once more.I didn't want to let go.My eyes shifted to the girl who passed by and rode a car with a guy.I widened my eyes in shock. The guy is definitely Bryce.Although I've never seen him, surely it was him.And he was with my best friend,Vanessa. She's the one Clyde's talking about.I thought it was entirely coincidental. So that's why she was acting so strange last time.I bet Clyde doesn't know she's my best friend.
The rain drizzled silently.Clyde and I rustled to the street.A taxi came our way and let us in.
"Clyde,Vanessa is my bestie." I blurted carelessly.
Clyde turned to me,trying to process what to say next.
