Chapter Two (Part Four) Blame It On The Rain

Start from the beginning

   "Do you have an umbrella?"

I felt numb standing there, freezing.I couldn't answer. His face dropped closer to mine.I felt my cheeks fluster with a shade of red.It took a fraction of a second before I came back to my senses.

   "What?" I asked cluelessly.

   "Umbrella."

"Oh right. An umbrella." I opened my backpack, and shuffled through its contents.Mints,Snacks, and his jacket wrapped in a paper bag.I held it out to show it to him.He recognized it at once.He took it and covered my head and upper body with it.

I remember this scene so clearly, the first time he did it when we met at the rainforest. The sleeves flapped on my sides.

"Hold on to that and follow me." he said.He covered his head with his two hands, the rain from the tree still dripping on us.

I pouted as I followed his footsteps, not because of the hassling rain, but because he didn't hold my hand one more time.

We stopped under the shed.No benches, but a cold, damp, concrete floor. He sat on the ground, and I also did.I put the jacket beside me.

   "Here we are again .  .  .  ." I muttered,sitting very close to him,leaning in a wall.

"Stuck in the rain. . . ." he answered back.

I started humming to the tune of "Rain,Rain,Go Away".

Just to make things a little happier.

"That's so dumb.Stop it!" he giggled.

"I'm just singing.Hoping it'll make the rain stop."

   "You're not even singing.You're humming."

That harsh remark made me quiet down altogether.

Silence filled the air.

"Are you angry now?" he broke in.

"No." I replied breathily. "I just remembered.I loved playing in the rain as a kid." I stepped out of the shed and stretched my arms, feeling the raindrops trickle on my skin.I was under the rain a while later.

"Hey." He grabbed my arm and pulled me away. "You're gonna go home soaking wet like that?"

Uh-oh.My shirt and jeans are now drenched in rainwater. It was fun anyway. He held my arm,and my heart went on hyper mode again.Listening to my reflexes,I pulled him with me under the pouring rain.I laughed, watching him shake his head, clearing the water from his hair.

Clyde

I wiped my face with the hem of my shirt.Alvira was laughing again.

   "You." I said,squinting my eyes.Alvira saw this as a warning,and ran away,further.She hid behind a tree,still laughing heartily.

She was so happy. Her smile was contagious. She had buried her eyes on the tree.I could see her smile from her cheeks.

Why does she have to hide that pretty face?

Today was supposed to be for finding Vanessa. But here I am,standing in the rain, watching a young girl shiver in the cold rain.I stepped nearer and clutched her shoulder. She turned around gingerly.

    "We'll meet with Bryce,now."

"Huh?" She widened her eyes cluelessly.

She seemed too clueless today,so vulnerable. She gets nervous when our eyes lock for a second, she gets upset for no reason.I wonder . . .
