But Im Really Glad

Start from the beginning

Heat rushed to my cheeks, and I turned halfway, ready to snap back with something but before the words left my mouth, Nice moved.

His hand tightened ever so slightly at my back, and suddenly he shifted, spinning me out in a fluid arc. The world blurred in a circle of golden light and mirrored reflections before he drew me back in, steady as ever.

“Eyes on me,” Nice said softly, almost too calm, like he’d planned this from the start. His voice cut through the fluster, pulling me right back into his rhythm.

The teasing from Wreck faded into the background as my body stumbled to keep up with Nice’s lead. My pulse jumped, caught off guard by the unexpected motion, but his grip was unyielding, anchoring me before I could falter.

I glanced up at him, breath unsteady, and caught the faintest curve of a smile tugging at his lips, as if he knew exactly what he’d done.

At first, every step felt clumsy, too sharp, too late. My body lagged behind theirs, chasing after the rhythm that seemed to pour out of Wreck and Nice like second nature. But then, something shifted.

The familiar hum of Resonance stirred deep inside me, slipping into my veins without warning.

I hardly noticed how natural it became, how each step stopped being a stumble and started feeling like mine. Nice’s hand steadied my back, his other guiding my arm as we moved together. I didn’t even realize I was holding my breath until the final beat hit—

—and Nice dipped me low, the studio lights catching in his eyes as our gazes locked. His expression was calm, but there was something else there, quiet and unspoken, holding me in place even more firmly than his grip.

For a heartbeat, nothing else existed. Just the two of us, suspended in motion.

Then Wreck broke the spell with a sharp whistle, grinning like a fool from where he leaned against the mirrored wall. “Well damn! You two fit together too well. Starting to think I’m the third wheel here.”

My face burned instantly, but Nice only let out a small chuckle, straightening me back on my feet with surprising gentleness.

Wreck’s laughter slowly melted into something softer. He leaned back against the mirrored wall, one arm slung lazily across his chest, but his eyes sharpened in that way that always made it hard to look away.

“You know,” he started, voice casual but steady, “this isn’t just about dance. Sure, it’s fun watching you finally join in with us, but…” He tilted his head, his grin slipping into something more honest. “It feels like you’re still holding back.”

I froze mid-step, my hands hovering uselessly at my sides. The air felt heavy against my skin, like even the hum of the overhead lights had grown louder just to mock me. “…Holding back?” I echoed, though deep down I already knew the answer before the words left my lips.

Nice stepped forward then, His expression thoughtful in a way that left me more vulnerable than I wanted. “He’s right,” Nice said quietly. “You’re always here, always cheering us on… but sometimes, it feels like there’s a wall.

Like you’re here with us, but at the same time… somewhere far away.”

A wall. Yeah. That was one way to put it.

I shifted my weight, fingers tightening around the cold metal can, eyes darting anywhere but at them. The polished floor reflected my awkward stance back at me, like it wanted to expose me too. They didn’t know how true their words were.

Because they were right. I was far away. Always. No matter how much I smiled, no matter how much I tried to act like I belonged, at the end of the day, I wasn’t from here. I wasn’t supposed to exist in this world of theirs. And every step closer I took felt like a step into something I had no right to claim.
