Maria Zapata loved what she did.

She had started walking towards the restaurant, a black leather jacket over her white button up shirt. But then she saw Carmen Berzatto rushing out of The Beef, running past her.

Maris was used to working under Carmen's brother Mikey, that is until his passing. The first impression she had on Carmen was that he was too stressed, and a bit of an ass.

"What's up with him?" Maria questioned as she walked towards the back, hanging up her leather jacket and putting her purse away.

"Igual que siempre." Tina says, making Maria snort as she wrapped her apron around her figure, setting up her station.

Maria helped Marcus, the duo experimented in pastries and desserts. She had started making dough from scratch when Carmen walked back in.

"You cut vegetables like a bitch." Tina says, looking at Carmen who started cutting carrots. Maria laughed from her station as Tina walked off.

"Don't wipe your hands on your apron, chef." Carmen called back. "Jeff?" Tina questioned, her brows furrowing.

"Chef." Carmen corrects as Maria continued to knead the dough for the bread that the sandwiches would be served on.

"Sure thing, Jeff." Maria teased from her station, Carmen sending her a look which only made her laugh harder.

But as they continued to cook, Maria had her dough in the oven to bake. "Tina, Ebraheim, Maria?" Carmen called as he walked into the kitchen.

"Carmen! Where is beef?" Ebraheim called loudly. "It's in the oven. Tina, can you start a new giardiniera for me please, chef?" Carmen called.

"I need my fennel first, Jeff." Tina called. "Carmen. I need my beef!" Ebraheim called, following the man towards the back.

"Ebraheim..." Carmen trailed off. "Then I do onion, then I do potatoes. We have system." Ebraheim states.

"Aight, but you can punch 'em, blanch 'em, freeze 'em, fry 'em before the beef, right?" Carmen questioned, only irritating Ebraheim further.

"Don't mess up our place!" He shouted. "I'm not missing anything up." Carmen says as Tina went to take her pot off the stove, making Carmen freeze.

"Chef, no! Please, please, do not touch that. This is the one time you listen to me. Please do not touch that. That's been going for 12 hours, okay?" Carmen says.

"That's my pot, Jeff." Tina says firmly. "Everybody know that's her pot." Ebraheim states, making Carmen shake his head. "Use another pot, please, chef. All right? Corner!" Carmen calls.

Maria turned, seeing Tina go to reach for her pot, but Maria sent her a look. "Tia, déjalo." She says as she grabbed another large bowl.

"Maria, how's the bread?" Carmen questioned, following the woman back towards her station with Marcus. "Baking." Maria retorts.
