Chapter 1: Late

Alex slept in his cosy bed till he could hear the birds. The sunlight peaked through the windows illuminating the mess of his bedroom. While he was off in a cosy and perfect position in his bed he's eyes began to flutter open as he yawned.

He opened his eyes yawning and checked his phone. It was 10:30 pm. His eyes poped out of his sockets as he sprang out of bed like a spring, almost tripping over his mess on the floor and got dressed in a hurry.

He was late for work...

He quickly wrapped his tie around his neck not bothering to tie it and rushed out the door with a bag cluched in hand. How could he have slept in?? Did his alarm not go off?!

(Outside)

He was now running down the street in a hurry. Still in his tired state, the exhaustion caused him to trip over his own feet. But instead of feeling the cold concrete against his face, the floor opened up leaving a split second to see the gapping hole before he fell through.

...

Everything went to black. His head throbed from the impact but was unharmed. He opened his eyes and found himself on the floor face down, the smooth cold flooring against his cheek was the first thing he felt. He then help himself up on his forearms and crocked his neck to look around.

He had no idea where he was, all around him, no light sorce and the gray hard flooring. The floor and ceiling was the same smooth slab and he could not see any walls. It never ending and kept going, like one big room stretched out.

In front of him, the only thing that stood out from the empty room was a tall dead gray tree. It's branches dead, worn and frale, some thick, some thin that twisted and turned upwards like it was reaching out for light. Around under the gray tree was a small patch of dead gray grass that seemed to flow and fold in rhythm of the wind.

But the thing was... there was no wind.

Something then moved in the tree that caught Alex's attention as he paused and looked up.
