Trapped In A Game

Start from the beginning

"I'm... Who am I?" I had been here for so long that I felt like I had forgotten my name.

"Well, my name is Leah! Nice to meet you."

"Up, down, up, A, left, left, start,"  a voice whispered in my head. This always happened when a new player spawned in. I ignored it every time, I didn't want to deal with this at the moment.

"Are you okay?" she asked, noticing me thinking about something.

  "Yeah, I'm fine."

Huntrax started to walk into our direction and the ground started to shake.

  "We have to run!"

"Run? Why? Oh my god that cat kind of thing is so cute!"

It ran into our direction and instantly ate Leah within seconds. I just stood there, it never noticed me, only this time it looked like the fur of the cat was glitching. It was showing weird pattens within it. Up, down, up, A, left, left, start. That's what it looked like. were the two things connected? The pixels were breaking off, but it kind of looked like it fit with the art style of the place.

The place where Leah stood  started to glitch too. Weird white particles flew through the air and I heard Leah's scream again. It sounded kind of familiar, kind of like my own voice, but distorted.

The world started to flicker and I felt dizzy. Everything went black, and the big cat was gone; it was like everything was reset.

A player spawned in again; Leah.

"Wow this game is awesome!" she screamed. "Who are you?"

She acted like I had never seen her before. What was going on here? "Don't let it kill me," a voice in my head whispered again.

Huntrax started to run into our direction again. I noticed this quickly and grabbed Leah's hand, "We need to get you out of here!"

We ran down the cliff toward the forest, hoping we could hide from Huntrax in there. The ground thud loudly as it stomped near us.

"What's happening, where are we going?"

  "We need to escape, now!"

I noticed the cave of demon spiders near us. We ran toward it, as the ground was becoming less shaky, "I did it, we escaped from Huntrax and you survived!"

"I survived? Was I supposed to die then," she laughed confused.

  "I don't really know what's happening," I replied.

"Don't let the timer get down to zero," the voice in my head whispered.

I had the sudden urge to tap my kneecap, so I did. A timer appeared. I had ten minutes left, "What does that mean?"

A demonic spider from within the cave ran past me and sprinted for Leah. It was like it didn't even notice I was there. Within seconds the spider had spun its web all over her and I could hear her soft whimpering from inside. I didn't even have time to react, the spider had done this within seconds and dragged her deeper into the cave.

The ground became shaky again and the pixels reappeared. That voice yelled again, but distorted, sounding like mine, "What do you want from me!"

Everything went black. I reappeared on the cliff and Leah spawned into the world again.

"Wow this game is awesome!" she screamed. "Who are you?"

I felt crazy. Everything was glitching out, nothing felt like it was supposed to anymore. I hit the kneecap again and the timer was at three seconds. Two. One. It hit zero. Nothing happened within the first few seconds, but then everything started to shake.

My hands started to shake and out of nowhere the mirror appeared. Only this time the reflection wasn't just me. The Huntrax was behind me, gazing into my soul, with eyes looking slightly familiar.

A voice whispered behind me, "You are the monster. You always were."

I spun around and wanted to scream. Stood before me was my future self, but all broken and torn down. It looked tired, worn down like it had been through this a million times, "Stop this," it begged. "You don't have to become it."

I tapped my shoulder without thinking. My empathy was now at zero and all my 13 points were into strength. Rank: Mastermind.

I wanted to believe it, I wanted to fight it. But I felt the power inside of me rising, twisting my bones, sharpening my claws. The red skin, I once hated was becoming thicker and spreading. My horns. They were burning like they were growing.

The ground shook beneath my feet as I fell onto all fours. My vision felt blurry, but all of the sudden it sharpened into something bigger, something wild. The voice faded. It tried to scream, but I couldn't really hear it anymore, "Please!"

I felt myself grow, I became bigger as the world faded, creating anew. I was no longer a player... I was the game.

The Huntrax roared, a sound that sounded like I created. I wasn't just controlling the Huntrax, I was it. I felt this evilness inside me, "Kill, kill, kill."

The tiny village beneath me reformed and all of the little people hung around their huts. Their little squeaks annoyed me, I couldn't wait for them to be killed... by me.

The screen flickered and went black for a moment. A new player appeared. They looked like me when I joined for the first time.

I stepped away, and waited for the right moment. The cycle started all over again, there was no end. This was the game and I became the creator. I'm trapped forever with no escape. This became my destiny when I joined the game, but I just never realized and now it's too late.

"Wow this game is awesome!" the player shouted.

I smiled, my sharp teeth showing, "Yeah," I whispered to myself. "It is."
