“Watch out, Moon!” Tango shouted from where he was pinned to a wall on the roof of a building by two of their cloaked attackers. Pearl was so consumed fighting a group of them, she didn't notice another of the attackers, standing on a different roof top, firing an arrow directly at her head.
At Tango's warning she veered, pulling moonlight from around her fingertips, and whipped her hands around. The light swirled in front of her and crystallized into a glowing purplish-pink shield, just moments before the arrow would have made contact. She snatched the shield, throwing it like a ninja star back at the figure still on the roof. He had no time to duck before it hit him square in the head.
The people behind Pearl wasted no time, seizing the moment to take the offense. Pearl was able to stand strong for now, but she couldn't last forever. She would need help if she wanted to defeat them.
Tango strained against the wall, and the two jerks. He'd have no problem getting out of this if only he could use his power! But they'd slipped something over his wrist when they'd first jump him and Pearl, that sapped him of his fire and ice. He was useless! Where was Etho when you needed him?
All he could do was watch, as Pearl was fought to a corner by the three, kicking and diving just as valiantly as she always did. Her moth wings tucked back as she ducked under a fist, and then jumped up with a powerful uppercut that sent the guy stumbling backwards to the floor.
That was one less, but there were still two more, both wearing the same dark brown cloak, with an odd emblem of a fancy ‘X’ in the center of a white circle.
“Stop struggling, Frosty Boy. You're nothing without your powers.” One of his captors snickered, his nails digging deeper into Tango arm, “It wouldn’t be too bad if your team lost the weird moth lady, anyway.”
“Oh, I’m sorry.” Tango hissed, “You must not be familiar with the concept of loyalty. You see, while your buddies get beaten up by ’the weird moth lady’, you’re just sitting here and cowering.”
“Why you little,” He reeled his fist back to give Tango a good punch, but before he could, a fishing line swung around his hand several times. He stared at it in utter confusion. Then a figure landed a ways off, and pulled back on a fishing rod. Tango’s captor went flying through the air, whisked away from him in an instant.
Now there was only one other beside him. The man’s grip on his shoulder slackened, as he whispered shakily, “It’s the Mask.”
Tango grinned a cheeky little grin and laughed. It was Etho.
Taking advantage of his enemy’s shock, he swiped a foot under both of the taller man’s feet, sending him to the ground. Then he ducked down to the fearful man’s level, “Listen pal, so long as you stay in this spot, I’ll see that you remain unharmed. Kay?”
The man nodded quickly, eyes wide.
Tango jumped to his feet, hurrying to help his friends. He didn’t like causing unnecessary pain, and he’d felt the man’s hands trembling the whole time. Some people really didn’t know what they were signing up for.
“About time!” He hollered at Etho, who dropped the man he was fighting to the ground, unconscious.
“Hey, I didn’t think you’d get into this much trouble. I leave you to for five seconds, and this is what I come back to!” Etho huffed, hooking another one of the cloaked fiends with his fishing line.
“Sorry dad. We just like to have a little fun!” Tango joked, running to Pearl’s aid.
Etho, shook head, “Unbelievable.”
