"Katie! Katie, wait up!"

The girl with the long, straight, brown hair, Katie, stopped and turned around. She waited, a bit impatiently, while a girl with a pretty face and wavy, pale blonde hair puffed around the corner. The girl called Katie rolled her eyes.

"Why have you brought your cat with you, for God's sake? I know he's cute and all, but won't he just get in the way?"

"Why have you brought your phone and hair straightners with you, then? There won't be signal or electricity, you should know that, dear." The blonde girl countered, setting the cause of the trouble, her cat, down on the ground. "I already asked, and they said it's fine, if he's one of my two items. He'd miss me if I wasn't here, anyway, he's like my little shadow." She smiled and swished her hair, like she had won the argument, and she had, for now, anyway.

Katie sighed. It was true, that cat followed her to school most days, and hung around mewing whenever his owner wasn't in sight. Katie thought cats were meant to be independant, but obviously not.

"Well, come on, Cadi, we're going to be late if we don't hurry. Isn't this exiting? I never thought I would do anything like this, ever."

"Mmmm," was Cadi's reply to that particular statement. "Come on Nico, time to go." She raised an eyebrow at the cat, who stopped sniffing at something and trotted along nicely next to the two teenagers.

They chatted about nothing for a ew streets, and when the conversation dried up, Cadi asked the question to which she knew the answer, she just wanted backup to calm her nerves. Nerves which were completly irrational, according to her mind, anyway.

"Whay are we doing this again?"

Katie rolled her eyes again and answered the question like she was tyalking to a toddler. "To pay for our prom dresses, duh!"

"Oh, yeah," She replied, not really listening. She hadn't even told Katie she wasn't planning on going to prom anyway.

They drifted along in their own thoughts for a while, until they reached their destination. The non-commital name, 'Central Research Institute', stared blandly down at them as they went through the revolving doors. The girls beamed at each other, as they approached the reception. The receptionist stared at them as they came closer. She seemed to only have one expression that worked on her face - boredom.

"Um.. We're here for the.. experiment?" Katie coughed a little nervously as the receptionist looked them up and down, the boreddom nerver moving from her face. Her name label said she was called Christine.

"Names?" She asked in monotone, not even looking at them anymore. She was probably checking facebook for party invites, for all the girls knew. It didn't look like she was ever rushed off her feet here. Not that she looked the rushing sort.

"Katie Walters," Katie supplied, glancing over at her friend. "And Arcadia Whiteman."

"Well, you're five minuites late," Christine the receptionist informed them, boredly, "But I'll send you through anyway. Second floor, fith on the left down the corridor."

Arcadia picked up her cat and started to move, waiting for Katie.

"What?" The receptionist glared up at Katie, who obviously hadn't moved in her alloted time of five seconds.

"Oh, um... nothing.." Katie hurried away from the desk, slightly suprised at a second emotion making an appearance on Chritine the receptionist's face.

After a suprisingly uneventful journey to the fifth door on the left of the second floor, Cadi rased her free hand to knock on the door, but it opened to reveal a man with a scary smile.

"Girls, girls! Do come in, ahahaha!" The friends glanced at each other breifly before heading in through the open door. The man with the scary smile, 'Call me Harry. No need for 'Doctor' and 'Sir' around here!'

Call me Harry was very exited about Katie and Arcadia ariving, so much so that he kept on laughing in the middle of every sentance.

"Right, girls! Hahaha, let's just put your things down here, ahahaha, two items each I see, been following the rules, hahaha, you two are good girls, hahaha.."

They followed him around the lab, listening to his mindless narration of their journey around the room.

".. And here we have a test tube, ahahaha, very interestion those are, and look! A whole drawer full of them! Hahaha!" Call me Harry looked like he was about to wet himself with joy.

"And here is your transport for the journey! Hahaha, first class, I'll have you know, hahahaha.."

Katie and Cadi stepped into the small machine, perching on the thin band of cushioned seat that went around the edge. Nico jumped up and curled up next to Cadi.

"All set, I think. I'll just lock you in, hahaha, and you'll be off!"

"Um, ..Harry?" Arcadia asked, not comfortable with calling the man wth the scary smile by his first name.

"Yes yes? Ahahaha.." The stightly mad scientist popped his head back around the entrance.

"Um, how are we going to get back? That's the one thing I never saw in the leaflet.."

Call me Harry did his best scary smile, went "Ahahahahahaha" and slammed the door shut. Cadi stared at Katie with wide eyes.

"Stop worrying, Cadi, it'll damage your face. They'll sort it out. Smile, it's going to be an adventure!"

Cadi pursed her lips, and muttered under her breath, "You say that now, but when your hair straightners don't work and you can't text Cayne... mayhem."

Random lights flashed around them as the machine started up. They were going back, back in time, to the Stone Age. The last thing Cadi heard was Katie - "Do you think we'll see any dinosaurs?"
