It was quite simple...he needed the money. He was so poor. His job as a cab driver wasn't paying nearly enough to support him.If there was anything he could change about his past...it was be to not fuckin' join the Project. It ruined his whole life...so much so that he had to quit the job that was actually paying money because his arms wouldn't work properly due to the fuckin' trap. If he knew that old man was a serial killer he wouldn't have done the 'surgery' on him. He even went to the full extent of changing his last name because when he heard the name, "Cortez", it hit him like a truck and reminded him of how shitty he was. Valentina was dead, Gabriela was dead and Mateo-Fuck...A small sob escapes the cab driver's lips. Mateo...Another sob.This was all his fault...he shouldn't've gotten this close to Mateo...Sob.If he stayed away and treated him like a work colleague, nothing more, then he wouldn't get so upset when talking about him..Mateo...was still in the hospital...bandages wrapped around his head...in a coma with brain cancer. And a lack of sight in his left eye. All because of the cab driver's choices. Fuck, if he could trade Mateo's life for his...he'd do it in a heartbeat.
