Sun shines down upon the land as I walk across the open plain. I've been tracking a group of thieves who stole something of mine, an item I aim to take back. As I walk, the sun beginning to set, I see a company of dwarves setting up camp. I decide to take a different path, taking shelter in the trees. I climb up, finding a spot where I can rest, but stay out of the way of the company. I don't need any more problems. I get comfortable, and I lay back to rest.
Sometime later, I'm awakened by the thunderous footsteps of a creature. I quickly sit up, seeing a troll walking away from where I'm at, two ponies in its arms. I silently sneak through the trees, keeping out of sight. I see two dwarves and a hobbit sneaking toward the campsite of three trolls. As I sneak a bit closer, I see the hobbit making his way past the trolls, attempting to break out the ponies as the trolls argue over their meal. I stay hidden, keeping silent as the hobbit sneaks behind one troll and tries to take his blade. That is, until the troll grabs his handkerchief and the hobbit, blowing his nose into the poor dear. The trolls all peer at the hobbit, staring in amazement.
The trolls holding the hobbit's eyes widen "Blimey! Bert, look what's come out of me hooter! It's got arms and legs and everything"
The other troll looks confused "What is it?"
"I don't know, but I don't like the way it wriggles around"
The trolls drops the hobbit, the hobbit quickly getting to his feet as the trolls surround him.
"What are you then, an oversized squirrel?"
The hobbit speaks up, clearly scared "I'm a burgl-a hobbit!"
"A burgla-hobbit?"
"Can we cook him?"
"We can try!"
The trolls attempt to grab the hobbit, but he is too fast for the lumbering trolls.
The chef troll, Bert, blacks the hobbit from escaping "He wouldn't make more than a mouthful, not when he's skinned and boned!"
"Perhaps there's more Burgla-hobbits around these parts. Might be enough for a pie!"
All the trolls try to grab the hobbit, but he dodges their attempts at catching him, until, finally, a troll catches him. The hobbit is held upside down, the troll glaring at him.
"Are there any more of you little fellows hiding where you shouldn't?"
"No"
"He's lying"
"No, I'm not!"
"Hang his toes over the fire! Make him squeal!"
Suddenly, a dwarf emerges out of the bushes, hacking at one troll's leg, sending the troll squealing. The other trolls look at the dwarf, startled.
The dwarf holds up his weapon "Drop him!"
"You what?"
"I said drop him"
The trolls holding the hobbit growls, throwing the hobbit at the dwarf. The rest of the company emerges from the bushes, attacking the trolls. The fight, until the trolls grab the hobbit, holding him by his arms and legs.
One of the dwarves yells out "Bilbo!"
The trolls glare "Lay down your arms, or we'll rip his off!"
I see the leader, who looks a little familiar, hesitates before dropping his sword. The other dwarves follow suit, allowing the trolls to put them all in sacks. Well, except for the ones they've tied up above the fire. The trolls go back to trying to cook the dwarves, arguing over how they should be cooked until one glares at the other two.
"Never mind the seasoning; we ain't got all night! Dawn ain't far away and I don't fancy being turned to stone"
I tilt my head, curious as the hobbit's face lights up. He stands himself up, hopping into view of the trolls "Wait! You're making a terrible mistake!"
Two of the dwarves yells out from the spit "You can't reason with them, they're half-wits"
"Half-wits? What does that make us?"
I chuckle a bit, catching the attention of one of the trolls. I stay silent when the hobbit, Bilbo, speaks up again, bringing their attention back to him "I meant about the seasoning"
The chef troll, Bert, looks at him "What about the seasoning?"
"Well, have you smelt them? You're going to need something stronger than sage before you plate this lot"
As Bilbo distracts the trolls, I hold out a hand, the fire dying down, the flames looking like the setting sun, my magic forcing the fire to dim.
I suddenly see a tall man run behind the large boulder above them. The man, who appears to be a wizard, stands on the boulder "The dawn will take you all!"
The trolls look at him confused.
"Who's that?"
"No idea"
"Can we eat him, too?"
The wizard strikes the rock beneath him with his staff, the rock breaking in half. Sunlight pours into the clearing. As the light touches the trolls, they turn into stone, screaming and howling until they are nothing more than statues.
As the dwarves free themselves, I see the leader talking with the wizard, until they enter the troll's hoard. I carefully move around to the cave, staying hidden until the company exits the cave. I sneak into the hoard, searching for the bag that belonged to the thieves. I grab it, opening the satchel. I dig around in the bag until I find what I've been looking for.
