Not what it seems in Lima

First session

"Your mother tried to get your father to see that, she tried to help him understand what ruling with your head and not just your heart is like, he like you, was driven by his emotions and that is what turned him into the man he is."

My eyebrows furrow in confusion as I settle deeper into the chair "so what feelings are bad?"
Shelby shakes her head her brown hair flowing down her back shaking softly. "Of course not, your father was a good man once and maybe a part of him still is, his emotions is what made your mother fall in love with him. He was brave and kind and strong willed and saw the good in everyone"

Hesitating I ask "what changed?"

Shelby's eyes flicker behind me her gaze clouding over slightly before she reaches out and grabs my hand my vision suddenly blurry as the room disappears around us a new area appearing. " Well it all started...."

(FLASHBACK)

"Cassie, come on! Your father is expecting us. He already doesn't like me do we really need to agitate him further?" A tall young man with a chiseled jaw line, brown eyes and dark curly hair speaks a rugged smirk stretched across his face as he turns to look at a young woman with flowing curly blonde hair with brown streaks running through it, her piercing green eyes mimicking the smile shining on her face as she laughs

"Relax Eli we are only five minutes late, besides my father doesn't not like you" she replies her voice light with fondness "and we wouldn't be late if someone hadn't stopped to break up a fight between two drunk humans. You're lucky nobody was around to hear you using your persuasion on them. You know we aren't supposed to use our gifts around people who aren't primes."

Her eyebrows drawn together in a slight frown as they walk towards a farmhouse seen ahead. The man scoffs slightly before nudging her and sighing "come on cass! They were acting stupid! I mean humans get to live out there free while we hide in the shadows living in the woods! And what do they with that freedom? They waste it away drinking mindlessly and fighting amongst themselves" he grabs her arm gently pulling her to a stop as he continues talking

"Just imagine it cass, us ruling together not just the primes but the world! We could stop fighting make better choices for humans, primes could live free, we could end poverty, think of what we could accomplish, what humans could accomplish! And if we ruled them then anyone that got in our way that tried to hurt our future family we would have the means to crush them. Besides what happens if the zanderx comes back like they swore too? We would have an instant army, an entire planet at our command.

The woman sighs bringing her hand up to his face as she strokes his jaw softly a sad look briefly crossing her face. "To lead is not to be tyrants Elijah. People should have a choice to follow a leader and a true leader knows that giving commands and bending people into submission is not freedom my love. Your ambitions and emotions have to co-align with your thoughts and intentions. Doing something bad for the right reasons doesn't make the action itself noble or right."

"We have the abilities to bend humans to follow us no matter what but we don't because whatever wars or mistakes they make it was still their choice. And forcing them to help us against zanderx wouldn't make us any better. That is why my father has us hide, and train.

The man's eyes get steely for a second as he clenches his jaw before he looks into the green eyes of the woman he loves. "You're right as usual. Besides your father would never listen to me." The woman chuckles "I always will my love"

(FLASHBACK ENDS)

Blinking rapidly I suck in a giant breath my eyesight still somewhat blurry. "What was that?" I ask Shelby confusion marring my face.

"That was your father and mother when they were your age years ago. That was the beginning of doubt in your grandfathers rule and the beginning of power grabbing your father skewing his once ideal heart and thoughts. The beginning of his end so to speak"

Sitting back stunned slightly I rub my temples a headache forming as I try to process what I saw
"I need to take a break I'm exhausted and this has been a lot" Nodding her head Shelby points towards the rickety stairs. "Second floor first door on the right you can take a shower and stay the night, I've already called your fathers while you were out earlier to tell them you were here"

Arching my eyebrows in surprise I nod, hastily Making my way to the room she mentioned to process all that has happened today.
