the front door clicked open with a soft creak as y/n stepped inside the apartment, the weight of the long day practically pressing down on her shoulders. the hallway light cast a warm, golden hue across the hardwood floor, and she let out a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding. she looked like she had been pulled straight out of a magazine spread—tie slightly loosened, camera bag slung across one shoulder, and the faint scent of roses and champagne clinging to her jacket from the wedding.
with each step toward the living room, her feet grew heavier. the heels of her boots thudded softly against the floor until she stopped just past the couch. without ceremony, she kicked them off with a small grunt, letting them fall wherever they landed. her bag slid from her shoulder and landed with a quiet thump beside the arm of the couch. then came the jacket—unbuttoned and peeled off with sluggish hands before being tossed carelessly over the backrest.
finally, she let herself drop into the couch cushions, limbs sprawled and body sinking into the plush fabric. she closed her eyes and exhaled deeply, her chest rising and falling with the kind of fatigue that lingered in her bones. she reached up to tug her tie loose, letting it hang loosely around her neck as her head tilted back. the silence in the apartment was peaceful—welcoming.
a moment later, soft footsteps approached from the hallway.
"hey, baby. you okay?" daniela's voice was gentle, full of concern and love as she rounded the corner. she was wearing one of y/n's old t-shirts, her hair pulled back in a messy bun, and she padded barefoot across the floor to sit beside her girlfriend.
y/n didn't open her eyes. she just let out a quiet hum, barely audible, and leaned a little to the side until their shoulders touched.
daniela immediately noticed the slump in y/n's posture, the way her body felt heavy and slow. without a word, she reached out and guided y/n's head to rest on her shoulder, her fingers brushing a few strands of hair away from y/n's face.
"come here," she said softly, adjusting herself so y/n could lean on her more comfortably. one arm came around y/n's shoulders, holding her close, while the other hand began to gently play with the ends of her hair.
"how was the wedding?" she asked, her voice low, like she didn't want to disturb the quiet too much.
"great," y/n mumbled, voice muffled against daniela's shoulder. "met some old friends too. a lot of dancing... lots of running around."
"mm, i bet. you've been gone all day."
"since 8am," y/n murmured, her hand coming up to rest on daniela's thigh lazily. "my legs are dead."
daniela smiled softly, her fingers continuing to move slowly through y/n's hair in soothing circles.
"have you eaten?"
y/n shook her head with another hum, this one a bit lower, almost sheepish.
daniela made a small noise of sympathy and leaned her head against y/n's. "how about i run you a bath, then order some takeout? maybe thai? or that noodle place you like?"
a small smile tugged at the corner of y/n's lips, her eyes still closed. "that'd be great," she said, voice quiet but sincere.
daniela chuckled softly, feeling the smile against her shoulder. "yeah?" she whispered, turning her head slightly to press a kiss to y/n's temple. "you really did work hard today."
"you have no idea," y/n breathed, but there was comfort in her tone now, a little more warmth.
"alright, stay here," daniela whispered, carefully shifting out from under y/n. "i'll get the water started. ten minutes and i'll come get you."
y/n hummed in response, already melting further into the couch like she might fall asleep before the bath was even ready.
daniela stood up, taking one last look at her girlfriend—tie still hanging loose, face relaxed for the first time all day—and smiled to herself as she headed for the bathroom.
tonight was going to be simple. warm water, takeout, and holding each other until sleep took over.
