Aaron and Damian had been best friends since they were kids - the kind of bond you can't fake, built from scraped knees, late-night talks, and shared secrets.

But time changes people.

By the time they hit their twenties, life had pulled them into different worlds. Aaron stayed in their hometown, working in his dad's mechanic shop, while Damian left for the city, chasing a career in music. They stopped texting every day. Calls became rare. Still, deep down, neither could forget the weight of everything they had been to each other.

One chilly evening in October, Aaron heard it - a song playing from an old radio in the garage. A rough, passionate voice, unmistakable. It was Damian's. The lyrics talked about "home you can't go back to" and "ghosts you leave behind."

Aaron wiped the oil from his hands, heart hammering. Without thinking, he grabbed his jacket, jumped into his truck, and drove - out of the town limits, past the empty fields, straight toward the city skyline.

He didn't even know if Damian would want to see him. Maybe he was just another ghost.

But when he finally found Damian - sitting on the curb outside a tiny music venue, guitar case by his side - Damian looked up and grinned that same stupid grin from years ago.

No words were needed. Aaron just sat beside him, the city humming around them.

Some bonds, no matter how stretched or battered by time, never really break. They just wait - quietly, stubbornly - until you're ready to pick them back up.
