Paramedic Chapter, The Novel

prologue - Hotaru Hozuna

Hotaru woke up with a jolt, one hand instinctively went to her right shoulder while her torso found it's place against her bent legs, heart pounding in her chest.
Another one of thoes nighmares.

She sighed and took long big breaths to calm down, before looking at the alarmclock.
6:05, to early to get dressed, to late to get more proper sleep.
She stood up and went in the bathroom of her room in the dormirory, splashing some warm water on her face.

Lazly she gazes in the mirror that reflected someone she wasn't willing to look at: Herself.
a sligtly sign of rings under the eyes was visibile on her sligtly tanned skin due the allnighters she pulled in the last week to study everythingh before the final exames, her dark brown hair in a Butterfly cut with curtain bangs falling in a messy way, some strands sticking on her wet face.
The blue tips of her hair freshly re-dyed were spread on her shoulders and with some knots here and there.

She blinked slowly, her mismatched eyes looking back at her tired form, the bloody crimson color of the right iris it was in complete contrast to the navy blue iris of the other eye, the two matching only thanks to the white pupil in the shape of a latin cross with square edges.

She closes the blue eye shut immediately as her own conciousness refuses to acknowledge the cause of the severe bullying as part of her body due all the shame.

While drying her face on the soft towel of her bathroom with one hand she reaches out with the other to take a dark gray square eyepatch to cover her left Eye, she put it on, adjusting it to make it fit more confortably, then she went back in the main room and looked at all her things already in boxes ready to be shipped to her assigned brigade hq.

She took a moment looking around at the room she's spend the most of her time during the years of training at the Fire Force Academy.
The paramedic course she decided to add on to the other normal classes might had been difficult but at least It have her a skip the line ticket into a Company due the reinforcements in the medic field after an action in the netherworld that costed many lifes among the members of the 2 Brigade.

"I hate endings... I hate changes"

She mutters as she crouches down while looking up at the right side to close the tear ducts and prevent crying

"Don't cry now, you promised yourself not to dumbass"

After a Moment she finally stood up and started getting dressed with the military uniform; the only difference in hers from the standard one was dark blue skirt was that she wore a tsubekan like skirt and the dark Blue bow on the front had a broach shaped as silver skull.
She look at herself in the reflection of the full body mirror next to her desk.

In that moment, her allarm goes off.

"uff, I'm already awake alarm, thanks for nothing"

She blurs out sarcastically while walking towards the nightstand turning the cubic shaped alarm upside down, shutting the nagging beeing sound and setting It on the clock mode.

After She was done to puting on her silver bangles on one arm, a black studded bracialet on the other a military tag neckless and sword pendent earring she pulls the dufflel bag on her shoulder heading to the door.

"Time for changes"

She wispers before taking in one last breath in her old routine, breathing out in her new reality as she left.
