World Gone Wrong Part 7

Outside the house

Everyone contributed to building the fence, even Steve's children. By the time they were done building the sun was already setting, the fence had surely been sturdy because Luke said he used to work for a construction company. They were all sweaty, tired, and hungry when they had finished.

"Mom! Dad! I'm hungry!" Kyla whined, "Honey wait okay? We'll get some food in just a minute." Sarah said, she had bent down to wipe some of they sweat off of her kids foreheads.

Everyone came in changed into some cleaner clothes and washed their clothes that they worked in. Luckily there was a manual water pipe beside the house, it was one of those pipes you had to keep constantly pulling just to get some water. But that was like a blessing, so how could they complain?

When they were all changed and washed their clothes, they had went to the dining room to eat. Teresa, Sarah, Mary, and Eli all cooked the food. While the men set up the table, the woman had made a nice little ravioli. Considering the little food they had, this was still good. Everyone started to dig in right away but Keaton stopped them.

"Guys we have to say a prayer remember?"

"Oh yeah we do." Wes agreed,

"Dear Lord, we thank you for keeping us alive here and today. It is a miracle that we are, and we ask for You to keep us safe and unharmed from any danger in the future." Everyone said Amen shortly after and did the sign of the cross.

Now everyone could eat peacefully, at the dinner table there was an awkward and uncomfortable silence.

"So what do you do Teresa?" Mary asked,

"Oh I used to be an officer." Teresa replied,

"So I'm guessing you're gonna teach us how to shoot?" John asked making everyone laugh.

It had felt good to laugh again, laugh like there was no worries, none of the infected, and fighting for survival was just a one to a billion chance.

"Sure will buddy, but does anyone else here not know how to shoot?" Everyone except Keaton, Wes, and Drew raised their hand.

"You guys know how to shoot?" Teresa asked the 3,

"Yup, we learned up at our cottage." Drew said, they had finished and started to head upstairs, but they heard a loud noise coming from the outside. They all stopped, wondering what the noise could have been, it continued coming closer and closer to the main door.

Everyone in the house went to grab something, something they could protect themselves with. Steve had started to come up to the door to see who it was, he walked slowly and carefully trying not to make a sound. He held the door knob and swung the door open, Steve had saw had saw a teenage boy but he wasn't infected,

"Mister you scared me to death." He said, it was a voice Mary and Eli recognized. It was the voice of her ex-boyfriend. Oh no! Mary thought, the boy walked through the front door and it was exactly who she thought it was.

It was James, no no no! She thought. It could of been anyone in the world but him? James was tall and buff, he had gorgeous blue eyes and wavy brown hair with a slick smile. He was handsome, very handsome but also a jock and a player. Mary was a freshman and didn't know any better, but she had learned her lesson when she came to his house to surprise him and caught him making out with some ugly girl.

After the incident she couldn't stop crying for weeks, James was her first love and he had broken her heart.

"Mary? Mary is that you?" James said, he ran up to Mary and hugged her, he had kissed her on the cheek and was way too close for comfort. James greeted everyone else he knew there and introduced himself to the crew.

"Hello I'm James, and I've survived on my braveness and good looks."

After he had said that everyone scoffed and rolled their eyes. James was cocky and Mary still didn't know what she saw in him. It will definitely be interesting with James in the house now.
