The maddening sounds of shrieks and screams of terror reverberate through the castle's interior walls. Echoing fiercely, piercing the heavy silence of the west wing. Rushing footsteps thunder down the darkened corridors of the grand Eryndorian palace.
An ambush? On sacred grounds. Who would dare?!
The assassin moved swiftly. The guards never even catching sight of the silent shadow weaving through the palace's grand halls. Leaving through one of the marvellous stained glass windows. The cover of night and their refined skill shielding them from the prying sight of the royal guard.
Silence fills the palace once again. The kingdom is quiet, in wait for its very uncertain future.
The woman wrapped in fine silk watches over the kingdom as the sun rises. A silence overtaking her being. Not a peaceful one. A restless silence.
Teary eyes track the sunrise. A new day. If only it felt as hopeful for her as it was always said to in books.
No, today was still the day after yesterday, still the day she had to take responsibility for her people.
Perhaps once upon a time she would have mocked the thought of becoming a teenaged ruler, how preposterous Its seemed in the modern day. But here we are. The soon to be queen left with no time to mourn the former rulers of her kingdom.
Her mother.
Her father.
The reason she's alive.
The princess, soon to be reigning monarch, watches on. A strange burning fire filling her very being. A burning fire lit by a match and then tossed on by pure gasoline.
Rage.
That type of rage filled her at that moment.
It wasn't gonna burn out anytime soon.
