i still remember when i first met johnny cade. i was at the drive-in one night by myself trying to cool off after a heated argument with my parents, and he was sitting behind me with who i also met that night, ponyboy curtis.
but i've known johnny for 5 years now. he's really still the same johnny i met that cold night, though. shy, quiet, and scared. he doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the gang, but nobody really minds that.
i quickly snapped out of my daze when two-bit nudged me in my side while the whole gang was at the curtis house, just hanging out like usual.
"hey y/n, you off dreamin' about that soc who gave you his number yesterday?" two-bit teased.
i rolled my eyes. "heck naw, i'd never call him. he was probably drunk anyway," i replied, moving a small strand of hair out of my face.
just then, dally decided the chime in. "yea two-bit, she's way too busy makin' goo-goo eyes at johnnycakes over here!"
"cut it out man," johnny said with hot cheeks, resisting a smile.
the front door opened, and in walked steve and sodapop, both in their dx uniforms. they were laughing at each other before they had even walked inside, but from their uniforms it was obvious that they had just gotten back from work. steve wiped some motor oil left on his hand onto his beat-up jeans, and soda sat down on the couch.
"hey, you guys wanna go do somethin'? i'm bored from sittin' in here for," dally looked up at the clock, "25 minutes."
"wow, you're real patient," steve laughed. "but sure, where should we go?"
"we could go to the drive-in," ponyboy suggested, looking up from his book for a moment.
we all agreed, and made our way out the door to begin walking to the drive-in.
"where's old superdope?" steve asked, noticing darry wasn't following behind us.
soda looked back at him and thought for a minute. "oh, he's at work."
"too bad he couldn't come, he'd love watchin' us all get into trouble!" dally said sarcastically, snapping his fingers.
"right," i laughed as we all continued our walk to the drive-in, chatting peacefully.
