Palermo wears its history like scars—its streets fractured and worn, its buildings weathered by time and violence. To outsiders, it appears a city of sunlit piazzas and bustling markets, cradled by the azure embrace of the Mediterranean. But for those who call it home, Palermo is a gilded cage, its beauty masking the rot beneath.

This is the place where my childhood was stolen. Where my parents were murdered, their lives snuffed out by Vincenzi’s cartel. Their screams still haunt my mind, and they never fade, no matter how much time passes. I loathe this city and the criminals who have claimed it. Yet, I remain. Perhaps I stay because I feel tied to its broken heart. Or perhaps I stay because of the ghosts.

And then there’s Matteo. His name hangs heavy in the air like the city’s stifling heat—dangerous, captivating, and impossible to ignore. He is Leonardo’s son, the heir to a kingdom built on blood and betrayal. I should despise him as much as I despise his father. But something about him defies all reason. I am drawn to Matteo despite the darkness that surrounds him despite everything he represents.

In the shadow of this city, where power corrupts and love is a forbidden luxury, I find myself caught between hatred and desire. Palermo is more than just the backdrop to my story—it is a character in itself, a cruel puppeteer pulling the strings of my fate.

This is a tale of love and revenge, of loyalty and betrayal. Of how the city I hated might become my ruin.
