Alicia Beaumont awoke to the sensation of cold silk pressing against her skin. Her head throbbed, her limbs felt heavy, and a distant ringing echoed in her ears. Something was wrong—terribly wrong.

She blinked rapidly, her vision adjusting to the dimly lit room. A grand chandelier hung above her, its crystal facets casting delicate patterns against the high-vaulted ceiling. The walls were lined with rich navy and silver tapestries embroidered with celestial motifs, and at the far end of the chamber stood an ornate mirror framed in gold.

This wasn’t her bedroom. This wasn’t even her world.

Panic surged through her chest as she sat up abruptly, her breath hitching. A wave of dizziness nearly knocked her back down, but she forced herself to remain upright. The sensation of unfamiliarity wrapped around her like a suffocating shroud. Where was she? And why did her body feel… smaller?

A sharp knock interrupted her thoughts. Before she could react, the door creaked open, and a woman in an elegant black dress entered, her silver hair neatly pinned into a bun. Her sharp violet eyes softened as they met Alicia’s.

“Your Highness, you’re awake. You gave us quite the scare.”

Alicia froze. Your Highness?

The words felt foreign, yet familiar at the same time. She struggled to recall why, but then it hit her—the novel.

The novel she had been reading the night before.

“No way…” she muttered under her breath. “This can’t be happening.”

She reached up to touch her face, fingers grazing soft, youthful skin. A frantic glance in the mirror confirmed her fears. Staring back at her was not the girl she had always known but a younger, refined version of someone else entirely—Princess Alicia Beaumont, a minor noble in the world of Echoes of a Stolen Fate.

The realization sent her mind spiraling. She wasn’t just in the novel. She was the novel’s overlooked side character, a twelve-year-old princess bound to be married off to a foreign prince in the coming years, a mere pawn in a game she had no say in.

No. She refused to accept that fate.

The woman beside her, who she now recognized as Lady Eleanor, the princess’s governess, approached with concern. “Your Highness, do you feel unwell?”

Alicia quickly shook her head. She needed time to process everything without raising suspicion. “No, I… I just had a strange dream.”

Lady Eleanor’s lips pursed, as if debating whether to press further, but she simply nodded. “Understandable. You took quite the fall from your horse yesterday. It’s natural to feel disoriented.”

Alicia latched onto that explanation, grateful for the excuse. “Yes. That must be it.”

But inside, she knew the truth. She had died in her world and woken up in another.

And now, she had a choice—follow the path set for her, or carve a new one entirely.

---

The days passed in a blur as Alicia familiarized herself with her new life. Being a princess meant long hours of etiquette lessons, history studies, and courtly duties. But none of that mattered as much as the knowledge she now possessed.

She knew what would happen to Aeris, the novel’s original protagonist. She knew about Caspias’s cruel manipulation, Felix’s unwavering devotion, and the dark fate that loomed over them. Most importantly, she knew where she herself stood—a mere background character with no influence.

But that was about to change.

Alicia had no intention of being shipped off to a foreign land, forgotten and powerless. If she wanted control over her destiny, she had to make herself indispensable. She had to become more than just a name in the story.

She observed everything—the nobles who whispered behind their fans, the alliances that dictated the kingdom’s future, the subtle power plays happening beneath the surface. And slowly, she began to position herself strategically, planting seeds of influence where she could.

But she was still only twelve. She had time, but she needed an ally.

And fate had already set her on a collision course with one.

---

The first time Alicia met Felix Montreve, she knew what she was gonna do.

That was when she saw him—a boy around fourteen, his golden-blonde hair tousled by the wind, his hazel-amber eyes sharp with focus as he expertly wielded a training sword.

Felix.

In the novel, he was supposed to be Aeris’s devoted childhood bestfriend and also the second male lead, the one who stood by her through every hardship. But in this moment, he was just a young noble, unaware of the storm brewing in his future.

And Alicia had just become a part of it.

As she watched him fight, a new thought took root in her mind. If she wanted to change her fate, she needed to start early.

And Felix Montreve was the perfect place to begin. She'll have to look for a way to approach him. But not here.
