But, of course, life had other plans.

You had just stepped out of a café, iced coffee in hand, when—

BUMP.

A familiar scent. A familiar presence.

You looked up, heart sinking.

John. -You said

He smirked.

We keep running into each other. Fate, maybe? -He asked

You sighed.

Or just really bad luck. -You added

He chuckled, stuffing his hands into his pockets.

Come on, don't be like that. We were friends before all this, weren't we? -John asked

You hesitated. It was true—you and John had gotten along well before this whole mess. But now? Things were complicated.

I don't know, John, -You admitted.

Not after what you said. -You added

He exhaled, tilting his head.

Look... I didn't say it to mess things up for you. I just— -He stopped himself, looking at you seriously.

You couldn't help but let out a small laugh.

There was an awkward silence between you two—one that felt strangely heavy. You didn't want to hurt him, but you also had no intention of leading him on.

Before you could say anything else, you suddenly felt an arm wrap around your waist.

Darling. -You heared someone say

Oh. Shit.

Jhoanna had arrived.

She stood beside you, her grip possessive, her eyes dangerously calm as she stared John down.

John, -She greeted flatly.

Jhoanna. -He nodded, a little too amused.

You always appear at the right time, huh? -John asked

maybe, -She said smoothly,

you just don't know when to back off. -She added

You swore you saw a flicker of annoyance cross his face, but he quickly masked it with a smirk.

I was just having a conversation. -He said

Jhoanna's grip on your waist tightened slightly.

Yeah? Well, this conversation is over. -She saud
