Author's Note

(If you don't want to hear this, skip to the line to read the prologue.)

I welcome you all to the wonderful world of Dread Queen. Now, I know there have been many adaptations of the story of Hades and Persephone here on Wattpad, and on many platforms. Most notably, Lore Olympus on webtoon, which I have heard great things about but not read myself.

If any aspects of this story are similar to LO or otherwise very mainstream adaptations, I apologize. I try very hard to have my work be my own, thus the only research I do is rooted in facts and the actual mythology, not another author's work of fiction.

With that settled, I also want to make clear that, while I do try to stay true to Greek mythology, there is only so much entertainment that can come out of those well-known and well-recited stories. So, I will be taking a lot of creative liberties to spice up this ages-old tale.

Okay, I think that's all the important stuff mentioned! Happy reading!

Gaia works in mysterious ways.

Everyone knows the story of the earth and the sky.

There will always be a balance between life and death.

Life is a beautiful thing, it begins so quickly-

-and its length is unknown-

-until the very end.

Love is life. Given to us by the very hearts that created us. By the very earth that raised us. By the very hands that hold us.

It is breathed into every being, as vital as oxygen. You cannot have life without love, and you cannot have love without life.

And what about death? Yes, let's see. Everything must, at some point, come to an end.

Could love be an exception? Death is but a new beginning, where love can grow, can flourish.

Nothing ever grows in the underworld, dear sisters.

Love is the matter that stretches from heart to heart. It does not grow, it does not die. It cannot be made, or destroyed. Love defies.

Love defies.

Love defies.

Love defies.

Gaia created all life which Ouranos had destroyed.

The titaness Rhea made all heavenly children which Kronos had consumed.

Metis held all power which Zeus had absorbed.

And in that balance of life and death, there was always, to be found, love.

I think you'll find many a thing in that balance.

Many a thing, indeed.
