The shinkansen rumbled smoothly along the tracks, cutting through the vast countryside and the sprawling cityscapes of Kyoto. Hana's eyes were glued to the window, watching the fields of green transform into the crowded streets and towering buildings of the city. Her heartbeat quickened in excitement, but there was also an odd tightness in her chest.

This was it. The moment she had been waiting for. The start of her new life.

She adjusted the strap of her backpack, pulling her gaze back to the passing view. The familiar rural backdrop of Hyogo seemed like a lifetime ago. Her hometown, her family, the comfort of knowing everyone and everything—now, it was all far behind her.

It was a bit daunting to think about.

"Am I really ready for this?" she whispered under her breath, her fingers unconsciously fiddling with the hem of her jacket. She had always considered herself the quiet one, the one who liked to stay in the background. This—this new chapter—felt overwhelming. Would she really fit in with the bright and confident students at Kyoto University? Would she be able to keep up?

Shaking her head, she tried to push those thoughts away. She had been scouted, after all, and she had earned her place here.

The train slowed, pulling into Kyoto Station, and Hana felt a flutter of anticipation mix with nerves. She could do this. She had to.

The Yoshida Campus was larger than Hana had imagined. Wide pathways, big lecture halls, bustling students. There was an energy in the air—expectation, purpose—that made her feel both small and excited.

After a few minutes of wandering, she found herself standing in front of the Registrar's Office, the letters of the sign seeming to glow in the afternoon sunlight. The office was small but cozy, with shelves of files and a low hum of activity. Behind the counter, a middle-aged woman with short black hair and glasses greeted her warmly.

"Welcome to Kyoto University! How may I help you today?"

Hana smiled shyly and handed over the paperwork she had received in the mail. "I'm here to register as a new student."

The registrar, Ms. Ayumi, glanced over the documents, nodding. "Ah, yes. Kimura Hana. I see you've been accepted into the Faculty of Integrated Human Studies. Excellent choice." Her voice was kind, but Hana could hear the underlying approval in her tone. She felt a rush of pride—but also pressure, like there was a weight in the air.

After a moment, Ms. Ayumi reached for a second set of documents and looked up with a smile.

"Congratulations again, Miss Kimura. You've been selected to live in the Dandelion Dorm."

Hana froze. Dandelion Dorm? She blinked, confused. "I'm sorry... Dandelion Dorm?"

Ms. Ayumi chuckled softly, setting the paperwork down and adjusting her glasses. "Yes, it's a special dorm for our university's eight selected students—a place for students who excel academically and in other areas. It's meant to foster growth and collaboration."

Hana's stomach turned. Selected students? Her? She could barely get through a day of studying without second-guessing herself. She had always been the quiet, observant type—never the person to stand out. But now, here she was, being placed in the same dorm as seven other "top-tier" students?

"Oh," was all she managed to say, her voice coming out too small. She chuckled awkwardly, but it felt forced. "I didn't realize... I don't know if I belong with those kinds of students, though."

Ms. Ayumi's gaze softened as she observed the shift in Hana's demeanor. She leaned forward slightly, her expression warm. "Miss Kimura, the Dandelion Dorm was created specifically to nurture students like you—students who might not always see their potential, but who have the ability to shine. We believe in you, and I'm sure you'll rise to the challenge."
