It was a warm autumn day, the trees were just staring to turn pumpkin orange and the streets were quiet. Kimberly was outside on the rocking chair placed on the porch, her light gingery hair slightly swaying in the soft breeze, with a notebook in hand, a pen in the other,
' gosh, why in the world is it so hard to to 'simple' homework' she thought stabbing her pen into the front cover of her book in frustration.
' Why can I be smart like the kids in my class,' she wondered sarcastically
' mom is already furious that I'm falling behind,'
her eyes started to swell up as if she was going to let out a few tears. Kim sniffled and quickly wiped a small tear away before it could roll down her freckled cheek with her sweater sleeve. She caught a glimpse of a black cat run across the street, Kim leaned forward without getting out of her seat to investigate, her hazel eyes darted right and left but no sign of the cat. Just as she was about to lean back and get to her math homework she noticed her mother's car in the distance, she knew she was coming home early so she wasn't alarmed.

The car pulled into the driveway, the same old black Nissan. Her mom stepped out with her coffee mug in hand and her other supporting her stupidly expensive purse.
' ' hey sweetie ' ' mom said walking up the wooden stairs to Kim, her heels clicking with every step.
' ' hi, ' ' Kim muttered,
mom looked at her and tilted her head slightly.
' ' What you up to? ' ' she said unlocking the door with her keys.
' ' stupid homework ' ' she said awkwardly.
' ' Well, gather your siblings from upstairs we need to talk about something new'
' Kim's heart dropped, whenever her parents talked to them about something all together it was never, ever good.
' ' f- f- for what? ' ' she stammered looking up from her chair her heart filled with dread.
Kim was an average sized girl, in her sophomore year of high school. She was an anxious little thing, she suffers from anxiety but is getting better, what doesn't help is a boy in her class who is just plain nasty. He'd point out any little imperfection about her and make her feel horrible about herself. Well at least it's not like her middle school, gosh children can be meaner than teenagers somehow. Her mother noticed and felt bad knowing what she goes through,
' ' oh honey, don't worry it's not bad news ' '
She patted kim's head softly as she took off her white Crocs with autumn themed charms. ' gosh i can't keep on lying to her ' Her mother , beverly , thought guilty.
