Rebecca drove down the winding road that led towards Turtle Island Bay, a small island town nestled between two big cities. Her roommate Taylor had invited her to come stay with her and her dad over summer break. With her family out of the country, she decided that being alone for a couple of months was not what she needed. If she was being honest getting out of Boston sounded like a wonderful idea. The bright complexion of the cityscape had her feeling on edge. Plus, with her exhaustion from classes and her low-paying job that she got fired from she needed the break. A break to relax, unwind and not have to worry about anything. Taylor had described Turtle Island Bay as being this cute little place where everybody knows everyone, you can leave your doors unlocked and you can see the night sky for miles.

The GPS on her car had said that she only had 20 minutes until she arrived in Turtle Island Bay. When she left Boston Rebecca was hopeful that she would make it before nightfall, she did not want to get caught on unfamiliar roads in the dark. She had 2 hours till sunset leaving her enough time to get to her destination and unpack. Smiling to herself as she turned down the last road towards the bay Rebecca mentally patted herself on the back, this was the first time she had driven this far by herself and had not gotten into trouble on the way there. Her last boyfriend Steven would take her on little adventures away from her family. Most of the time trouble would find them, either a flat tire or they would get pulled over by the police. Steven was bad luck and when she finally broke up with him all her bad luck turned around. Her streak of good luck was going on a year without any trouble and a year without Steven.

The longer she drove the more confused she became. The road became more treed and overgrown. Something was wrong. Pulling her car off to the side of the road she turned her attention to her GPS, it was saying that she needed to stay on this road for a few more kilometres. That cannot be right she said aloud. Looking back to the road in front of her she decided that turning around and heading back to the main road she had turned off would be the best idea. She could stop someone and ask for directions.

Putting her car in drive she pulled away from the shoulder and cut her wheels sharp. By this time, she should have already been in Turtle Island Bay. Rebecca shook her head in frustration, it was such a small town that they had not updated the GPS data to show the exact roads to get to the Bay. If she had wasted more time heading down the road to nowhere it would be dark, then she really would be lost.

Rebecca shuttered, maybe her year of good luck had run out. She did not want to think about the implications. It was not her fault that the sting of bad luck had befallen her, that was her ex's fault he was the bad seed. As she drove, she noticed that the wind had picked up. Dirt and debris swept across the road, her car shaking with the intensity. Rebecca feared the worst. She just needed to get to the main road, then she could stop and reassess the situation.

Rebecca had to slam on the brakes as a branch from a tree came crashing down in front of her car, a scream tore through her as more tree branches pelted the sides of her car. The wind picked up fast and in a short amount of time. Rebecca was not expecting what happened next. As she reversed her car to get around the branch a loud crack reverberated throughout her. She stopped reversing to look around she could not see anything from the dust that was kicked up. She had no idea where the sound came from. Breathing out a shaky breath Rebecca slowly took her foot off the break peddle when a mother crack sounded this time, she did not have time to react when a huge tree came toppling down onto the hood of her car. The scream that tore from her throat could have woken the dead. Metal crunched and the thud of the tree reverberated through the metal frame of the car. With its momentum of hitting the ground, the tree twisted landing on the windshield and smashing it to pieces. She could feel the glass cut into her skin as it fell to the floor. The dash crumpled under the weight of the trunk pressing down on her legs. Her car sputtered and rumbled to a stop leaving Rebecca in silence as the wind continued to howl.
