Venti's POV
Liyue's breeze has always felt odd. It smells like stone and sea, both anchored and wild. I stood on the edge of Wangshu Inn, looking out over the city. A familiar person stood near the pillar, gazing down at the bustling waterfront. Years had passed, yet Zhongli remained unchanged.
He hadn't altered much. His presence was as constant as the mountains, like a silent storm I couldn't get away from. It wasn't because I wanted to, though. Seeing him again reawakened something deep inside me that had long been suppressed.
"Zhongli," I said quietly, a grin pulling on the corner of my lips. "Still standing guard over Liyue?"
His eyes flickered to mine, recognition and something more blazing in them. "Venti," he said, his voice warm but unrecognizable. "It's been a long time."
My heart ached with a weight that was both familiar and unfamiliar. "Yes, it has." It was too lengthy." I smiled, but the air between us seemed thicker than I had anticipated.
"Come," he replied after a minute, indicating towards the trail. "There's much to catch up on."
I followed him, feeling at ease but also worried. The breeze caressed across my hair as we strolled side by side, but something was different today. Something we hadn't covered yet.
But I wasn't sure I was ready for it.
