Prologue

If people were to discuss drivers who appeared glued at the hip, they would often bring up Lando and Oscar.

The two who started off as colleagues, Lando the eldest and more experienced of the two with Oscar being the younger, aspirational one, were thrown into an unfamiliar situation when the 2023 driver lineup was announced. It would be Oscar's first year in formula one and it would be Lando's first year in formula one as the elder teammate. Lando had seen Oscar around and only managed to squeeze out 'hi' s and 'bye' s until the 2023 season began.

"Oscar's quite tall isn't he." is Lando's first observation of him.

With the power of proximity and a mutual desire to win, the two quickly began to bounce off of each other and began a friendship.

The papaya pair were both young, but Oscar was younger. He always looked to Lando for advice, almost like he was his mentor, and never questioned his ability to deliver a good drive. There were moments of silence of course; after all, the friendship was still new and forced, but nevertheless, the pair would never argue, they never faced obstacles on track as they both respected each other too much to act stupid.

They did, however, face obstacles as friends.. but it wasn't until Abu Dhabi 2023 that they would realise it.

The pair were both together at an 'end-of-season' party when Lando pulled him aside for a private talk, which was a rare commodity now they were both famed celebrities.
Lando took them to a corner of the party, distanced from prying eyes, the press, and the ridiculously loud music.
"What're your plans for the winter break?" Lando asks.
"Uhh, I'm probably just gonna head back to Melbourne until duty calls." Oscar says with a smirk, "You?"
"I don't know mate, probably going to stay somewhere sunny for 3 months." He laughs, also invoking a laugh out of Oscar.
There's a moment of silence before Oscar intervenes, "Melbourne is sunny." He says, almost like it's an invitation.
"A lot of places are sunny, Osc."

And there it was, the first time Lando called Oscar 'Osc'.

"Osc?" He questions
"What? It's my nickname for you!" He giggles, "Do you not like it?"
"I've had worse." Oscar says, still giggling
They both turn to look at each other. The pair weren't privy to sharing eye contact, but this time it was different. This time, Oscar looked at Lando with a little too much love, and so did Lando
And it's obvious that they both kind of knew because it was at that moment that they both looked away in embarrassment in synchrony , and returned to the party.

When the party ended, Oscar felt disheartened, and a little embarrassed. He knew it would be the first time in months that he would talk to Lando.

The pair barely spoke all winter. After all, they were only teammates, there was nothing to talk about unless it was professional.

When the 2024 season began, and Oscar was no longer a rookie, everything changed.
With another year of experience behind the pair, their confidence increased and they were both hungry for wins.
The McLaren car looked promising at the start, being able to deliver Lando's first ever win after years of experience.
They both celebrated, obviously, but Oscars Hunger for a win was left to marinate, whilst Lando's was quenched.

And this new greed for the pair, would be the beginning of it all.
