Skips takes your hands in his own. The music playing is slow and sweet, just what you like. You smirk at Skips. You lead the dance, seeming how it's been over 200 years since Skips has danced last, and he's surely never done it with another man. Well, you're both having new experiences tonight. Skips is a little clumsy as first, but his body remembers the moves and slowly gets the hang of it. Good thing you're patient. Patient with Skips and patient with everyone, every day. Good thing you're such a sweetheart. The music playing is something old, of course, and probably about some straight kids or something, you don't really care. You only care about the big immortal hunk right in front of you who's completely opened up tonight. You say something probably really cheesy, but Skips finds it endearing. Thank god Skips is such a sweetheart as well. And you know that he would fight the whole world for you. It's ok, you would too, after all. In a heartbeat as well. You've never quite been in love like this before. Actually, you've never even been in love before. Yet, somehow you've fallen head over feels for Skips. And you're perfectly fine with that fact. Just as you're fine with the fact that Mordecai and Rigby have been following you and your date all night and what's even better is that they thought that they weren't incredibly obvious and might have actually been sneaky. You figured Skips realized when he left and closed the blinds. You pretended you didn't know, just for him though. You would do so much for him and you know it well. So does he. Which is why he's being gentle for you. Letting himself go in the privacy of his room and you and you alone. By now he's taken off his jacket and his shirt because really how long can he go without having his bare chest out. You don't mind, of course, because you've gotten comfortable as well. And you'll always be comfortable with him, and you hope he can be too. He pulls you out of your train of thought when he grabs your waist and dips you at an exciting part in the music. You feel yourself heating up. He's got quite a style. He looks down at you with the most satisfied smile, and pulls you back up to his level. You just now realize that you're about the same height. It's funny, because you've always kinda thought of him as above you. Some kinda of mountain that's too steep or a dream that's just out of reach of your mind and you can't seem to grasp it to relive it and enjoy it fully and truly. A person you look up to but could barely imagine every saying that to their face, saying how you really feel. And now you finally have told them, you've got that dream in your arms and your never letting it go. That beautiful, seemingly unattainable dream is in your arms tonight and he's more beautiful than you could have ever imagined. He's everything you hoped for and more than that, almost as if you had him totally wrong. But no, you've known him for years, and only now you're getting to know him? It seems wrong, but it's true. For the years that you've been working with him, all the late night card games, all the talks away from everyone else, behind the scenes things that never made it into the final episode were seemingly all slowly building up to this night. Every time, it would be swept under the rug accidentally and no one would ever find out. But sometimes, something would slip through the cracks. Someone walking by would see, hear what you really say, Skips would do something that if anyone else found out they would have been as intrigued as Mordecai and Rigby were all night. They would have all figured it out long ago, but no. Only the little bits were left after it all. Only enough to piece to together a small section of the puzzle of what you two really were, who you really were. For now, only a little bit would ever see the light of day and everyone would perceive you as "just friends." But with Skips' arms around you and his lips firmly pressed against yours, it seems impossible to ever think that. These are the things they don't see. When the credits have rolled and the cameras are off and everyone's gone home, what happens then? They don't know, and maybe they never will. Maybe this one time, a little too much will spread though. Maybe your other friends will start to whisper. Whisper about you, and who they thought you were and how wrong they were about you. How it turns out that you're not the guy they thought you were. How they're seeing a new side of you. But this new side isn't new at all, and they are the ones who are to blame, not you. You've been living your life as normal and they are the ones who have not been paying attention. Who have been cutting out the parts they don't want to see, the parts they don't want to be there. But the real truth is they are there and you are who you are. No one can deny that. No matter how much you cut out, how many cover ups you put, how many blinds you close. The truth is still there. The glaring, blinding truth that you and Skips can see so clearly but they still can't. They still refuse. If only they would open they minds and their eyes to you and to him, but they keep them closed and they keep their distance. So you're both isolated, but you're happy. Because you don't need them. You don't need any of them, all you need is each other. That's the only thing you care about. And when you think about it, all you ever have cared about. Having each other close and whispering sweet sweet nothings to each other until the end of time. With the lights off and the blinds closed, no one else around to spoil your fun. You can do whatever you want when you're isolated. When no one cares. It means that you have no expectation, no societal weight on your shoulders on what you have to be. That is true freedom. When no one cares so you don't care either. Freedom is something that you would have never been able to achieve on your own, and the same goes for Skips. Freedom was found within yourselves, and you found it the second that you let the others go. Let the fact they will never understand go. They will never have the kind of connection you do, they will never be able to experience true happiness for themselves because of their close minded ways. And while they're still your friends and almost like another family, there will always be that rift between you. The huge gulf caused by the fact that you're not like them. They have their ways, and you have yours, it's just the way it is and that's how it looks like it's going to stay for a while now. You'll stay with Skips, wrapped in each other's arms in comfort and warmth, digging your face into his soft fur, breathing in a handful of it too. Not like that's a bad thing at all, no. That's how you'd like it to stay. Have him stay right here, where you get him all to yourself. All of him. Even the messy parts, the ones other people might call gross or weird. The ones that make Skips, Skips. You get his past, his present, and his future to hold and love all the same. His best parts and worst parts, the parts that are sky and sensitive, the ones that want the rip everyone's head off. And all of those parts can be studied and played with by you, because you get all of this big furry sweetheart to have until you die. Until the universe calls for you to return home and do what you were created to do. Until you must make the biggest sacrifice, until you don't get a chance to say goodbye because you know what comes next. And you know that he'll be happy eventually. It's in his nature to eventually move on and welcome the next people that come. Have other lovers and life another life without you. But that's not happening yet. And for now, you can lay with him in peace, only you and him, until the end of time.
