Lizzie P. O. V
I was at cheer practice on the football field. The cheer captain, Julie, who is also my best friend, said she thought it would be nice to have it in an open field but I know it's because her boyfriend, Noah, the football team captain and his team were having football practice on the football field. She liked to watch when he was at practice. I didn't blame her though. If I had a boyfriend as hot as Noah, I would too.
I was doing a split on the ground as a part of my pre practice stretch when I saw a pretty butterfly. It was different shades of blue and it landed on my sneaker.
"Lizzie!"
My head immediately snapped in the direction of person's voice. It was a very annoyed Julie.
"Are you deaf? I said stand up." She hissed and I immediately stood up from my position on the ground. I went to stand by her as the assistant cheer captain and put on my biggest smile but everyone just giggled.
"Any way," Julie continued. "The state cheer competition is coming up and we have to win at all costs. We can't afford to lose that trophy.
The competition requires that we must not have more than 21 cheerleaders on the team so there is going to be a screening. If you don't make the cut, better luck next time."
We started cheer practice and Julie taught us the new routine she formed. I was a fast learning when it came to cheer so I got the hang of it pretty fast.
After cheer practice, I went to the girls' locker room and took a shower before going to meet up with Julie at her locker.
"Hey, Julie. Ready to head home?" I asked. She looked at me with a sad face.
"Lizzie, I lost my diamond earrings in the Art classroom."
I immediately felt bad for her. "Do you need help finding them? I can help you look."
Her face lit up. "Really? Oh my gosh, thanks Lizzie, you're the best."
She walked away and I immediately began my search for the earrings. I went to the Art classroom to search for them. I got on my hands and knees and searched the grass. It was quite tedious but I'd do anything for my best friend.
Mid way, I decided to search the bleachers. I searched every seat and checked the floor as well. I was about to check under the closet in the corner of the room when I tripped over someone's foot. I fell face forward on the ground. I got up and was about to continue going when the person spoke up.
"Watch where your going." He snapped.
"But your foot was out." I replied, confused as to why he would be angry at me for something he caused. Said person did not say anything so I continued my search.
"Do you mind leaving? You're disturbing my peace and quiet." The boy complained.
"Well I can't. I'm looking for something." I answered.
"Whatever your looking for, it's definitely not here." He told me.
"How do you you know?" I asked. "You don't even know what I'm looking for."
He rolled his eyes. "What are you looking for?"
"My friend's diamond earrings."
He rolled his eyes again. "It's not here. You're friend, Julie is just making a fool of you."
"How do you know that? And how do you know Julie?" I asked, suspicious.
He scoffed. "Who doesn't know Julie in this school? She's an infamous bully."
"She's not an infamous bully. She's my best friend." I argued.
"Your best friend is an infamous bully." He repeated. "And she's making a fool out of you right now. If you leave the art room, whatever student are left in the halls will be laughing at you."
"You don't know that. You don't even have proof of what you're saying." I accused.
"This art room has not been in use for almost a year. I come here everyday, not once has anyone come in here, apart from me." He relayed.
"How are you so sure about that?" I further asked him.
He rolled his eyes. "The door is always locked and I'm the only student with a key."
Oh
He was right. Julie was lying about her earrings. In fact, Julie didn't even where a diamond earring to school that day. Without saying anything, I left the classroom and made my way home.
He was also right about people laughing at me. Everyone was giggling and snickering at me in the hall way. I tried my best to ignore and went straight to my car, a VW Beetle car. It was pink, my favorite color.
I drove myself, straight home and I tried my best not to be too bummed about the prank Julie pulled on me. I walked into the house and found my parents and my twin sister, Hildegard laughing about something.
"Hey guys, what's so funny?" I said, smiling. They stopped laughing and looked at me weirdly.
"You wouldn't understand." Hildegard replied. I furrowed my eyebrows, confused.
"Why wouldn't I understand? Just tell me."
"I said you wouldn't understand. You're not smart enough to comprehend what we're saying." She insisted.
Oh
I nodded and smiled even though it hurt. Hildegard was the smart one among us. She always had good grades and perfect score while I, on the other hand, was just a pretty face as they liked to say. They never included me in their conversations because they told me I wouldn't understand. I often felt sad about it but I didn't dwell on it for long.
I mean, if I don't understand than I don't. What's the point of telling me if I won't understand?
I went to take a shower and do my after school skincare routine. After, I grabbed my phone and went to TikTok to check my following. I was still at 990k followers for about a year now. I was hoping to reach a million by then but it was like my progress was on hold.
I just shrugged. I started my journey as an influencer when I was 15 and I remember I was so excited and happy to be posting on social media.
I put down my phone and decided to do my homework. I already knew I'd get most of it wrong but I still did it anyway.
What's that saying? It's better to try and fail than to not try at all? I think that's right.
When I was done, I went downstairs in hopes that dinner would be ready because it was 6:30pm but I was met with a note on the kitchen counter.
'Dear Lizzie,
We went out for dinner and we didn't think you'd want to come so we left without you. If you want to eat anything, you have to order because the maid's on leave.
Signed,
Hildegard
I sighed and went back upstairs. It wasn't the first time they'd done it and I knew it wasn't going to be the last. My parents were always closer to Hildegard then they were to me so they always made plans with her and went the extra mile for her and honestly, I wasn't jealous or sad about it.
I guess it comes with being the smarter child
When things like this happened, it just made me wish I was smarter. I wasn't really hungry to I didn't bother ordering. I just went back upstairs and laid down on my bed before eventually falling asleep.
