New school, new opportunities

The human mind is truly the scariest thing of all. Thoughts hidden in dark corners. Lurking in the shadows, watching life spiral unable to take control and manipulate your inevitable fate. To dread being separated from human interaction you must fear solitude. I don't fear solitude. I envy it. But for the first time in my life, it doesn't feel good. When you explore the world you will find yourself in many adventures and along the way you will meet allies. And with these allies, special bonds will form whether that was your intention or not. Sometimes these bonds can drive you to madness, and not the good kind. They can alter your view on the world, almost like putting a pair of colored lenses over your dead and lifeless eyes. I strangely don't mind this though, not anymore. I never used to think this way and the reasoning I do now is due to a certain optimistic blonde werewolf I met in my early days of adventure. Enid Sinclair, the girl who turned an Addams soft. Wednesday Addams, that's me, the Addams who went soft.

I had just gotten expelled from my fifth school in eight years. The problem wasn't me, it was those sad excuses for teenagers in those institutions that made me snap. I've said to once, and I will say it again, the only person who gets to torture my brother is me. Pugsley has always been soft, that's what makes him weak. His weakness is what gets him into trouble. I always have to protect him from bullies like Dalton. People like Dalton shouldn't be allowed to procreate. Nevermind that, mother and father had the grand idea to move me half way across the country to enroll me into a new penitentiary, Nevermore Academy. My plans of escaping started the moment I started packing for my trip. On the way there the car ride was quite not counting the occasional awkward sounds coming from my parents who cannot for the life of them keep their hands off of each other. Once we arrived at Nevermore, my family and I were greeted by the principal, Larissa Weems. Once inside her office she discussed my academic status with my parents. "Wednesday certainly is a unique name. I'm guessing it was the day of the week you were born?" Principal Weems painfully tried to make small talk "I was born on Friday the thirteenth" I snap with my stoic, deadpan expression. "Her name comes from a line from my favorite nursery rhyme" my mother interrupts "Wednesday's child is full of woe" she continues "You always had a unique perspective on the world, Morticia" Principal Weems attention now on my mother "Did your mother tell you we were roommates back in the day?" Weems adds "And you graduated with your sanity intact? Impressive" I comment sarcastically. Principal Weems discussed paperwork with my parents until she said something that intrigued me "I've assigned you to your mother's old dorm, Ophelia Hall" mother gasped in excitement "Refresh my memory, Ophelia's the one who kills herself after being driven mad by her family, correct?" My mother shakes her head in approval "Shall we go meet your new roommate?" Principal Weems says with a vigorous smile.

As Principal Weems opens the large wooden door to my dorm my parents and I are horrified at the sight of bright colors assaulting our eyes. A blonde girl, slightly taller than me jumps up from her bed and skips over to greet herself. "Howdy, roomie!" She says excitedly with an adorably canine smile "Wednesday, this is Enid Sinclair" Principal Weems introduces. I feel a tight squeeze in my chest almost unable to breathe. "You never said anything about a roommate" I say as I shoot a threatening glare at Principal Weems and my parents who were standing beside her. "I totally promise I won't be annoying!" The walking cotton candy speaks "You already are" I snap at her.

As my parents say their goodbyes at the front of the school I give a blank stare still upset with them for sending me here. My mother wraps her arms around me and whispers into my ear "Any plans of escaping stop now" she knows me too well "Wouldn't dream of it mother, now you must be going don't want to keep Lurch waiting" I fake an upbeat tone "Goodbye my little storm cloud we will be keeping in touch with you through the crystal ball" my father informs me as I'm pulled into a suffocating hug. As I watch my parents drive away in our family hearse, I feel a sense of independence wash over me. For the first time in my life, I will be away from my parents and free to live my life as I want to.

Back at my dorm, my vivid roommate sits in the edge of her bed giggling at whatever is on her phone. I snap my fingers to get her attention "I will be setting some ground rules since we are going to be sharing a room together" I announce "Oh yeah? Like what" she asks as her head slightly tilts and her canines come out again in her smile "Rule number one, you stay on your side of the room and I will stay on mine, rule number two, we are not friends only roommates, rule number three, do not touch me, rule number four, don't expect me to be there for you, and finally rule number five, and this is the most important rule, your friends and romantic partners are not allowed in this room ever whether I'm here or not." I calmly and clearly state the five specific rules I require followed in order to make this school year tolerable "Great, not-so-subtle hint taken" Enid replies as she gathers her things and walks out the door. Confused about her behavior I walk over to my side of the room and start to unpack my

Later in the common room, I spot Enid speaking to a girl with long, black, straight hair wearing glasses that seem to completely shield sunlight. I want to clear things up about our interaction earlier but she seems busy at the moment and I don't want to intrude. As I turn to make my way out of the common room I bump into someone and fall to the floor. "I'm so sorry! I didn't see you there, are you ok?" A tall boy with short slicked back hair reaches his hand out for me to take it "Whatever it was my fault for not paying attention" I ignored his gesture and stand up on my own dusting off my dress "Oh ok um I'm Xavier by the way, Xavier Thorpe, are you new here? I haven't seen you around before" I give him a slight nod "Wednesday, Wednesday Addams, I just transferred" I respond examining his facial features. Green eyes, long nose, and dark eyebrows. "Nice to meet you Wednesday, my friend Yoko is having a small party at her dorm later, you wanna come?" I thought about his offer for a moment and usually I loathe going to parties but maybe just this once things would be different. "Perhaps, what time?" I ask raising an eyebrow "Party starts at 9:30 p.m. I hope to see you there" Xavier says as he walks towards his friends leaving me standing alone.

Right outside the common room is Enid leaning against a wall scrolling on her phone. Now is a perfect chance to speak with her. "Enid, may I speak with you?" I approach her in a non threatening way to not scare her off "What is it Wednesday? I thought you wanted to be alone" her words stung a little as I never meant for her to leave I just needed boundaries "I wanted to apologize for my behavior earlier, I will check my tone in the future" I place my hand on top of the other and look Enid in the eyes to make sure she knows I mean what I say. "Can we start over?" If I'm going to be sharing a room with this girl I have to be nice to her no matter how much it pains me "Yes of course!! I totally forgive you!!" Enid steps forward to hug me but I take a step back reminding her of rule number three "Right, don't touch you, got it" she says acknowledging the rule. "Well, my friend Yoko is hosting a party later tonight, do you want to come? It would totally be cool to get to know you better since we're roomies now" Enid asked hopefully "I'll think about it" I inform her as I was already planning on attending the party anyway.
