"Because if we both go, we could be snuck upon." Cyno pinched his nose, annoyed.
"Stay here." He quickly moved down to the camp.
Y/n mumbled to herself, annoyed. She watched him move swiftly around the camp. Cyno crept around a corner, but something seemingly caught one of the Eremites' attention. Y/n tensed, they couldn't have possibly heard him, right? He was dead silent from what she saw.
She saw one of the Eremites approaching Cynos' position. Y/n was about to run towards him, but the Eremite had already caught him. They cornered and pinned him down having the advantage of surprise. Cyno wedged his spear up, but the eremite was able to wrench it from his hands, getting off with a small slice across the chest.
Cyno continued to lash back, claws seemingly appeared from his hand. Y/n froze at the purple sparks. She was stunned into place as she watched another Eremite grab a stone and slam it into Cynos head. They dragged him over to a tree and chained his arms and legs.
Y/n watched in horror as they all repeatedly kicked him. A bloody mess was smeared on the tree. She saw a shine of a knife, and her heart started to hammer out of her chest.
Why did she think she could take this job. She couldn't help. She didn't have a vision, or fighting skills, or couldn't think fast. But she couldn't just leave him there.
The Eremite stabbed Cyno in his stomach. Y/n cupped a hand over her mouth as she watched another Eremite pull the one with a knife off Cyno. He seemingly reprimanded the attacker. The group moved back to the fire, their backs to Cyno.
Y/n made a move from behind the boulder which caught Cynos attention. He shook his head at her and signaled a shaky arm to stay. The H/c's expression had a weary and annoyed look. She was tired of his stubbornness. She ignored him and slid down the dunes, behind a tent. She peeked from behind the tent at the Eremites at the fire. The larger one was yelling at a small female for stabbing Cyno. She scurried to the other side of the tent where Cyno was. She crawled, cautiously to where he was and picked up the chain trying to free him.
"Y/n." Cyno warned her.
"Hold on, I'm going to get you out of here." She whispered, trying to quietly fumble with the rope. Her hands were shaking and coated with sticky warm blood. Cynos blood. She was suddenly and acutely aware of how much he was bleeding. It was soaking the sand she was kneeling in.
"Y/n, stop." He huffed.
"I think I can get it if I can sneak a tool." She mumbled trying to concentrate.
"Y/n. Stop. You need to leave." He grabbed her hands. Yet his grip was so very very weak....
Y/n stopped and froze. His gaze bored into hers. "I need you to run back to camp. Get help. Then bring them here and search for the ruins. Alhaitham will know what to do after that." Cyno explained, his voice breathy. This was the weakest she had ever heard it.
"Why are you talking like you aren't going to come with us?" Y/n huffed, feeling annoyed and petrified.
"Realistically, my injuries give me an hour at most... leave me. Go get help." Cyno closed his eyes, his expression pained.
Y/n froze at his words. Her face contorted to an indescribable emotion. Her feelings were a combination at disbelief, anger, fear, and everything in between.
"Are you insane? I'm not leaving you. I'm going to get a tool. Hold on..." Y/n slipped off her light jacket and pressed it against his abdomen.
"Keep that there. I'll be right back." She spoke quietly as Cyno was about to mumble his interjections.
She crawled to the nearby tent and quietly tried searching for something to use. She found a small screwdriver but nothing else. She was just about to leave when something grabbed her arm and threw her out of the tent onto the sand. Her breath was knocked out of her lungs as she stared wide eyed and the tall figure above her. She hid the screwdriver behind her back.
"Oh? So our Mahamatra has a friend?" He sneered.
Y/n scooted backwards, afraid and still gasping for her breath. The man reached down and Y/n flinched. She swung her arm from behind her back into the man's hand. He cursed loudly, which caught the attention of the other Eremites.
Y/n stood and pumped her legs over to Cyno. She was tripped and a sharp burning pain erupted from her calf. She looked back and saw a large blade protruding from it, a woman with her hand twisting the handle.
Y/n clenched her teeth and expelled a small yelp. She did the only the she could and kicked the woman. Hard. That knocked her off her balance and Y/n took the chance to pull out the sword leg.
Y/n started to try and cut the rope. She casted glances back at Cyno who was now in and out of consciousness. The pool of blood underneath him had gotten larger. A sharp pain in her chest knocked her off balance as a boot swung. A kick to the nose sent blood erupting from Y/ns nose. The bloodied H/c grabbed the sword and held it up in front of her.
The man from earlier was closing on her. He looked pissed. His bad arm limp at his side, he swung his good arm at her head which Y/n barely dodged in time.
Y/n swung the sword but her injury was limiting her movements. The sword barely knicked the man as he jumped back. The man charged at her and Y/n dodged behind a tree.
She couldn't over power him. That was obvious. But she had a weapon and he didn't. As she thought, a sword shallowly cut her cheek and hit the tree behind her. Y/n ducked and decided to attempt to finish cutting the rope quickly.
Cyno was freed. Y/n felt a fist make contact with her cheek. Y/n quickly dropped the sword and grabbed Cyno and hoisted him up. She ignored the stabbing pain in her injured leg, the pounding in her head and ran. She knew she was bleeding heavy. Cyno was by far worse off. He was barely conscious, making it harder for Y/n to run. She made herself over the dunes and could still hear the angry shouting of the Eremites. She slowed to a slow limp. She coughed trying to catch her breath.
Her legs felt like the would shatter. She just wanted to lay down and sleep. But if she did that, Cyno would for certain die.
Instead, she trudged along. Shaky breaths from the cold and the pain. The moon was high by the time she neared the last dunes before she was back at camp. She crawled over the last mound of sand and slowly descended down to where the group was.
Kaveh looked up from his sketchbook and froze for a few seconds before scrambling over to Y/n. She set Cyno down and Kaveh caught her in his arms just as her legs gave out. Kaveh hollered out to Alhaitham.
Kaveh gently passed Y/n over to Alhaitham. Alhaitham hoisted her bridal style. Y/n would have laughed if she wasn't in so much pain, due to Alhaithams face showing something other than indifference for once. She was carried over the the fire.
Alhaitham was speaking to her. But all she could make out was, "It's going to be okay..." before she slipped into unconsciousness.
