Chapter 40: Hello? Hello Hello?

''These are the last ones, right?'' Delta asks as she aims her rifle at the group of Raptures.

The little beings ensue in panic, shaking and trembling as they stand in place, unable to move due to the situation.

''Correct.'' Rapi affirms. ''I ran out of bullets, so you can do the honors.''

''Works for me.'' Delta gazes through her scope and aims.

But before she could take anybody out, something happened. One of the Raptures suddenly wails very loudly, prompting Rapi to cover her ears.

So loudly that it takes Delta out of focus and makes her shoot the ground instead.

''They are-'' Rapi gasps. ''They are calling reinforcements!''

''Tch.'' Delta clicks her tongue, getting herself back together and shooting the wailing Rapture in the core.

However, as soon as she does that, the others also begin to scream. All at the same time as well.

The noise begins to overwhelm the two Nikkes as Rapi clenches down upon her ears. ''SHOOT THEM!''

Delta obliges, quickly shooting down the other four before anything could come to their aid.

The last Rapture falls to the ground, its core leaking with a black substance as it lies defeated.

As the noise stops, Rapi finally uncovers her ears. Droplets of sweat run down her forehead as she looks around.

That was way too loud for nobody to hear.

Delta pants as she lowers her weapon, also gazing around with the same mentality as Rapi.

But fortunately for the two, there seems to be nothing. They're in the clear.

Realizing this, Delta sighs. ''Alright. That should be the last of them. Let's head back before the others start worrying about us.''

Rapi nods. ''Yes. Let us do that.''

As the two Nikkes begin their trek back to the Radio Tower, they can't help but start another conversation.

About how worried the others may be about them.

Signal, Anis, Neon, Marian, Y/n.

While the conversation is mostly normal, Rapi can't help but think. What is Y/n thinking about right now?

Is he worried about her? Is he perhaps searching for at this moment?

That latter option seems too dangerous. She hopes it's not that.

However, what they do not realize is what mess they've just gotten themselves into.

Somebody heard those cries.

They were alerted.

''Boom! You lose!'' Neon drew a diagonal line through her written X's. ''I win!''

''What the- How?!'' Anis' mouth fell agape in astonishment. ''I thought I had this in the bag!''

''Yeah, but not really.'' Neon chuckled, fixing her glasses. ''You see, my skills are... How should I say... Too advanced for your peanut-sized brain?''
