Fidelity knew Ava was right, but it didn't make the decision any easier. She carefully folded the map and placed it back in the box, her fingers lingering on the cool metal of the pendant before closing the lid. "Alright," she said finally, standing up. "Let's get back to the castle. We can plan our next move tomorrow."
The journey back felt longer than before, the eerie silence of the forest pressing in on them as they retraced their steps. The mooncalves had long since disappeared, leaving the clearing empty and still, as if the magical dance had never happened.
When they finally emerged from the treeline, the sight of the castle's warm lights was a welcome relief. The weight in Fidelity's chest eased slightly as they hurried back inside, the familiar surroundings of Hogwarts bringing a sense of safety and normalcy.
As they reached the entrance hall, Ava turned to Fidelity, her eyes filled with concern. "Are you okay?"
Fidelity nodded, though the anxious flutter in her stomach hadn't entirely subsided. "Yeah... just a bit overwhelmed, I guess. There's so much we don't know."
Ava gave her a reassuring smile. "We'll figure it out. We've handled strange things before, remember? And we're not alone in this."
Fidelity smiled back, feeling a little better. "Thanks, Ava. I don't know what I'd do without you."
"You'd be fine," Ava said with a grin. "But I'm glad I'm here with you anyway."
They parted ways near their separate common rooms, and Fidelity headed up to her dormitory, her mind still racing. She couldn't stop thinking about the map and the pendant, the mysteries they had uncovered in the forest. There was something important waiting for them, she was sure of it. But what it was—and what it meant—she wasn't sure.
As she climbed into bed, the cool metal of the pendant resting on her nightstand, Fidelity made a silent promise to herself: whatever this mystery was, she was going to solve it. And she wasn't going to let her fear stop her from uncovering the truth.

The next morning, Fidelity woke up with the resolve to take the next steps in unraveling the mystery. After breakfast, she found Ava waiting for her in the courtyard, their usual meeting spot. The morning sun had just begun to warm the stone benches, and a light breeze rustled the leaves overhead.
"Did you sleep at all?" Ava asked, raising an eyebrow as Fidelity approached.
"Not much," Fidelity admitted, sitting down beside her. "I kept thinking about the map and the pendant. There has to be more to this."
Ava nodded, pulling out a rolled-up parchment from her bag. "I was thinking the same thing. I did some research last night and found a few old texts that mention hidden places in the Forbidden Forest, but nothing concrete. I think we should show the map to someone who might know more."
Fidelity frowned, her initial instinct to keep the discovery between the two of them. "Who do you have in mind?"
"Professor Binns," Ava suggested. "Seeing as he's a ghost, he's been at Hogwarts longer than any other teacher. He also teaches History of Magic so he's an expert on the topic. If anyone can help us, it's him."
Fidelity considered this. Professor Binns wouldn't ask too many questions. He also probably wouldn't get them in trouble for sneaking into the Forbidden Forest. He would be the perfect person to go to. "Okay," she agreed, "let's talk to him after class today."
The rest of the day passed in a blur of anticipation and nervousness. Fidelity could barely focus during her lessons, her thoughts constantly drifting back to the map and what they might discover. When the final bell rang, she quickly gathered her things and met Ava outside.
They made their way to the History of Magic classroom, where the atmosphere was as dusty and old as the ghostly professor himself. Professor Binns floated behind his desk, his spectral form drifting aimlessly as he reviewed some ancient scrolls.
"Professor Binns," Fidelity said, her voice carrying through the quiet room, "we need your help with something."
The ghostly professor looked up, his eyes unfocused as he regarded them. "Ah, Miss Gardner, Miss Gillman. What brings you here?"
Fidelity stepped forward, opening the box and presenting the map and pendant. "We found these in the Forbidden Forest last night. We're hoping you can tell us more about them."
Professor Binns floated closer, examining the items with a ghostly precision. "Interesting artifacts," he mused, his voice drifting through the room. "These relics are connected to ancient magical practices. The pendant, in particular, is noteworthy. It is a key, often associated with moonlit rituals."
Ava leaned in, curiosity evident on her face. "Do you know what this map might be pointing to? And why the pendant is so important?"
Professor Binns drifted back to his desk, his expression contemplative. "The map indicates a location that has been hidden for centuries, a place of significant magical energy. The pendant is likely used to access this place. The magic surrounding it would be activated under the light of the moon."
Fidelity's eyes widened. "So, this location is hidden and protected? Does that mean it's dangerous?"
Professor Binns gave a slow, ghostly nod. "Indeed. Such places are often safeguarded due to their powerful and potentially perilous magic. The full moon is crucial for accessing these locations."
"Thank you, Professor Binns," Ava said. "That's very helpful."
As they left the History of Magic classroom, Fidelity and Ava discussed their next steps. "It seems like we need to investigate this location during the next full moon," Fidelity said, feeling a mix of excitement and apprehension.
Ava nodded in agreement. "Yes, and we should be prepared for the magic we might encounter. We should have about a month."
Fidelity agreed, her mind racing with thoughts of the upcoming adventure. With a clearer understanding of their next steps, they felt ready to uncover the secrets hidden within the Forbidden Forest.
