"Company man woke me up."

"Said you'd need ferry to the Obra Dinn"

"Not many eager for that job"

The Chief inspector of Insurance and Claims for the Honorable East India Company didn't acknowledge the boatman. Her eyes scanned the crumpled papers of note. 'Dispatch to Falmouth immediately to conduct a full assessment of the Obra Dinn.

Boatman: "Seems a bit late if you ask."

Inspector: "I didn't."

Her reply was curt. Now was not the time for questions, they'd been swirling London's streets since news of the Obra Dinn's return broke out. A ship lost at sea four years ago while voyaging From England to the Orient. Now it had returned...without any crew.

The nose of the rowboat bumped against the Obra Dinn's stern. They had arrived.

Boatman: "What's in the box?"

Inspector: "I don't know. Hoist it up in a few minutes."

Boatman: "Eh? How?"

Inspector: "Carefully."

Water soaked into the Inspector's gloves as she climbed on the Obra Dinn. The ship was quiet, cold, bereft of life. Only the ocean's music accompanied her. The clapping of mast sails, the crescendo of waves, the brush of the wind. Each barley audible, yet all she could hear. From offin the distance, a small circle of sunlight bounced off the water's surface.

Inspector: *Strange. The sun was behind me, I'm sure of it.*

She was suddenly aware of how tentatively she'd moved across the ship. She shook herself to her senses, ghost ships were a folklore. The East India Company knew the ocean for what it was; good business. Business was the reason for her being here, yet a ship that returned to the port after four years completely unmanned? That was unheard of.

Boatman: "Hoy! It's too heavy!"
