Atsushi Nakajima was never one to stand out much, at least not in the way people expected. Despite his powerful ability, *Beast Beneath the Moonlight,* and his pivotal role within the Armed Detective Agency, Atsushi had always preferred to stay out of the spotlight. The Agency had become his family, a place where he finally felt safe. But there was a secret he kept buried deep, one that only two people knew about—his parents.
Fukuzawa Yukichi, the stern yet kind leader of the Armed Detective Agency, was a father figure to Atsushi. He had been a guiding light, offering the stability and care that Atsushi had been denied for so long. What no one knew was that this paternal care wasn’t just a sense of duty—it was real, because Fukuzawa was his biological father.
His other parent, however, was a man no one would have expected—Ougai Mori, the cunning and often unsettling leader of the Port Mafia. But despite his reputation, Mori had never shown anything but love and care for his son. He had been gentle, protective, and in his own way, tried to ensure that Atsushi had everything he needed to grow up well. Mori’s darker tendencies had never touched Atsushi; for him, Mori was just another dad, one who would bring home sweets and worry when he stayed out too late.
Atsushi had never revealed his parentage, fearing it would complicate the already tense relationship between the Agency and the Mafia. He had never wanted to be seen as anything other than Atsushi, the cinnamon roll who tried to help everyone he could.
But secrets like this were bound to come out, and it happened on a day like any other.
The Port Mafia and the Armed Detective Agency had been thrown together in yet another battle against a common enemy. The fight was intense, each side showing off their abilities in a display of power and skill. Atsushi found himself face to face with Akutagawa, their usual rivalry flaring up as they exchanged blows.
It was during this fight that the truth came out. In a desperate move, Akutagawa struck harder than he intended, and Atsushi was flung across the battlefield. Akutagawa hesitated, a rare look of concern flashing in his eyes. Before he could check on his opponent, a voice rang out, freezing everyone in place.
"ATSUSHI!"
To everyone's shock, it was Mori, the cold, calculated boss of the Port Mafia, who rushed forward with Fukuzawa close behind. The two men reached Atsushi simultaneously, kneeling by his side, their usual enmity forgotten in their worry.
"Mori-san... Fukuzawa-sensei...?" Dazai’s voice was barely a whisper, his eyes wide with disbelief.
Akutagawa’s confusion turned to horror as he realized he had been fighting his boss's son.
Fukuzawa shot a glare at the Port Mafia members, his usual calm demeanor cracking. "This is our son," he stated firmly, the words ringing out in the silence that had fallen over the battlefield. "We’ve kept this hidden to protect him, but no more."
Mori gently lifted Atsushi into his arms, his expression softer than anyone had ever seen. "He’s been through enough. He doesn’t need to be involved in our world any more than he already is."
Dazai, for once, was at a loss for words. The anger he had for Mori simmered under the surface, but his concern for Atsushi overpowered it. He stepped forward, his eyes narrowing at Mori. "You better not have treated him the way you treated me," he muttered darkly, his voice low and dangerous.
Mori’s eyes met Dazai’s, and for a moment, the tension was palpable. But then, Mori simply shook his head. "Atsushi is my son. I would never harm him."
Fukuzawa nodded in agreement. "He’s been a good father, Dazai. For all his flaws, Mori has always cared for Atsushi."
Akutagawa was still frozen in shock, guilt clawing at him as he realized he had been fighting not just anyone, but someone who held a special place in both his and his boss's world. He stepped forward, his voice shaking. "I… I didn’t know. I never would have…"
Atsushi, slowly regaining consciousness, opened his eyes to see his parents and the concerned faces of his friends and allies. Despite the pain, he managed a small smile. "I’m okay… just a bit bruised."
Dazai’s tension eased slightly, though his glare at Mori didn’t falter. "From now on, I’m keeping an eye on you," he warned. "If you ever hurt Atsushi…"
Mori simply nodded, his expression serious. "I would expect nothing less."
With the truth out in the open, the dynamics between the Agency and the Mafia began to shift. Both sides were still wary, but there was a new understanding. Atsushi, despite the reveal, remained the same—kind, gentle, and always trying to do his best. But now, he had the full support of both his parents and his chosen family, and nothing could break the bonds they had formed.
As the days passed, Akutagawa found himself growing closer to Atsushi, the guilt of their previous encounters pushing him to make amends. Dazai, while still wary of Mori, found solace in the fact that Atsushi had grown up loved, something he had never experienced himself. And as for Atsushi, he continued to shine, his cinnamon-roll sweetness never dimming, even as the world around him changed.
