CHAPTER ONE

_______________

"Haah...i wanna go home..."

"Oh come on, Tamaki, we literally just started the shift. Don't tell me your little flea heart is shaking already??"

The small, cozy shop was empty at the moment, since it had just opened only a few moments ago. The perky, bright-blue haired girl poked the shy, navy haired boy on the arm over and over as he stood with his forehead pressed against the cold and smooth wooden wall. The café they worked in was rather sweet and cozy, it was small, but relaxing. A place where you could let your worries go and relax your mind, perhaps study or get away from the loud noise of the world. Nejire often had little sessions with the customers on her late night shifts where she would listen to the stories of the customers and let them vent to her. It made for a lot of great customers. Tamaki did it every once in a while too, but only if they were regulars.

The café's interior had a certain mood to it. The wooden walls and chalkboard menu with a bar behind them and the pastries set out neatly and orderly on the right side of the counter, the register next to it and all the materials needed on the other side of the counter and other countertops surrounding them. There were shelves decorated with books and merchandise, fairy lights and synthetic leaves prettily littered in all the right areas. Warm ceiling lights hanging up high above the work area and each table booth. Some would say it reminded them of a subtle and warm fairy forest.

"Hado-san...you're different from me. You actually like getting up and ready for the day. You're always ready to take on anything. I'm nothing like that...I'm an insomniac who is never ready to take on anything that's to come my way.." Tamaki explained, picking at his cuticles as he gently taps his forehead against the wall. Nejire pouted at that.

"Hey, hey, Tamaki...you can't talk like that...you're just as amazing as anyone else, y'know? You may not be ready for it, but you take on every problem just fine, even subconsciously sometimes!" She exclaimed, patting his back.

"I don't know, Hado-san..." Tamaki glanced at the bubbly girl, who tilted her head with the same pout on her face. "We're just too different.."

"Gaaaah!! That flea-like heart of yours will be the death of me, y'know!?" She grunted, rubbing her forehead against Tamaki's back and groaning.

Tamaki couldn't help but crack a small smile at that. She was right, he did have the heart of a flea. But he couldn't help it, it's just what he was born with.

'Ringgg!'

Nejire immediately perked up.

"Hey, hey, Tamaki! A customer! Our first customer of the day!" She exclaimed, running towards the front counter and smiling widely at the blonde haired man that had just walked in.

"Hi! Welcome to Creams and Dreams! How may I help you today?" She beamed, her bright presence making the already smiling man smile even wider.

"Hello to you too! I'd like...mm...a hot, caramel craze latte, please!" He spoke, his voice strong, happy and positively bouncing off the walls. He and Nejire were practically the same person, just different genders. This caught Tamaki's attention, as he was somehow usually drawn to loud, talkative and bright people despite his own demeanor. He glanced at the customer.

"Wow...he's...different.." Tamaki mumbled as he stated him up and down subconsciously. His hair was such a saturated blonde—practically yellow. And his eyes, a shiny and deep blue—if he were honest, he could probably get lost in those. The man was rather tall, and pretty well built, as well. he could tell he had a lot of muscle under the blue shirt and white, yellow and red varsity jacket, which had the letter M on it. Probably his first initial?

Tamaki hadn't noticed that he was staring for too long, or that what he mumbled had been picked up, until the blonde haired male spoke up.

"Different how?"

That made the navy haired man snap back to reality immediately. "Wh-What?"

"You said "Wow, he's...different." Different how?"

"I..." Tamaki was stunned at the sudden question. He felt his face flush as the blood rushed from his neck to his forehead.

"Y-You...heard that..? I...I didn't mean anything bad by it, I just...I meant...well—i...I actually don't know what i meant by that, I was just..." Tamaki stuttered, his hands fidgeting like crazy at his sides. His eyes darted off somewhere else in the room every two seconds, until he eventually turned around and faced the wall again, picking at his cuticles once more.

"J-Just pretend i didn't say anything...."

The blue-eyed male tilted his head, still smiling. His pompadour hairstyle caught the attention of the bubbly bluette taking his order.

"Hey, hey! Your hair, can i touch it? Can i?" She blurted out with sparkling eyes.

"Hm? Sure thing! I don't have a problem with that!" He responded, bending at a right angle so she could reach it. She pressed her hand against the top of his head, slicking it forward and watching it bounce a little. She gushed at that and couldn't help but talk his ear off about his hair, and then his entire outfit. The man gave little chuckles here and there, and made a few dad jokes that she definitely didn't understand or think was funny.

It went on for two minutes before Tamaki figured it was time for him to keep her talking in check again. He patted her shoulder. "Hado-san, his order..."

"Ah! I totally forgot! I'm so sorry!" She bowed apologetically. The blue eyed man waved it off, chuckling. "It's no problem at all! Besides, it's fun talking to you." He beamed.

'Even though Hado-san was the one doing most of the talking...' He thought to himself, glancing at the other man.

"Anything else you wanna add to the order? Hm?"

"How about a sugar cookie?"

"Sure thing! Will that be all?"

The blue eyed male nodded enthusiastically.

"Awesome! What name do you want to be on your order?"

"Mirio."

'Mirio....' Tamaki started staring at him again, specifically his eyes. there was something about his eyes that were so magical. Maybe it was their color? The beautiful royal blue that sparkles like the ocean at dusk, or the beautiful dark sky that glittered in the night...or maybe it was the positivity and strong sense of justice he sensed from the look in his eyes. Or maybe-

"...maki.."

Maybe it was...

"Tamaki?"

The way he...

"A-ma-ji-ki-saaaaaan!!!"

"H-Huh? What? What's wrong?"

Nejire looked at him, pouting like she did earlier.

"I called your name like a million times, you know? Right, Mirio-san? Didn't i?"

Tamaki was just barely processing what had just happened. He felt like he was just in some weirdly beautiful trance. Once he realized exactly what he was doing before Nejire pulled him out of said trance, his face flushed a deep red again.

"W-Well I- I'm listening now, so...what's up..?" He asked her.

"...The order? You've gotta make it now."

"Ah..right.."
