Daphne Dursley was the second born of her family, and subsequently her parents' second joy. Secretly the favorite of her mother, her parents always knew that she was something special. Everything that Vernon attributed to Dudley, the talent, the smarts, the ambition, came naturally to Daphne. She was even kind to her older cousin, Harry. Kinder than the rest of the household at least. She relished in her family's praise for the first 9 years of her life. Always doing what her mother asked, and basking in her fathers adoration. She turned 10 on the day Harry went off to Hogwarts for the first time, and in the year following that desire to please slowly faded. She became wholly different. Wholly disturbed.
If she had to guess her strange abilites first appeared in her childhood. Daphne used to have dreams that seemed a little too close to reality. At the age of three she told her mother that she dreamt about her family getting into a car accident. Her parents tried to fit her in to a child psychologist the next day, but their appointment was pushed back due to someone running a stop sign and taking off their whole front bender. After that, every dream to Daphne was a nightmare, never knowing what would come next. She started seeing a child psychologist after that, and after many sessions with him, the dreams went away.
When Harry Potter came home from his first year at Hogwarts, his whole family was on edge after his arrival. He began to notice a few things were different. His cousin, Daphne, had changed. Her long auburn hair that went to her back was often in disarray, and her beautiful hazel eyes had a grayish hue to match her dark under eyes. She had always been slender, far skinnier than her brother, but it looked like she lost almost 15 pounds. Her ivory hands were red and raw from being overworked. How? Harry didn't know. But if she was walking through the halls at Hogwarts, Harry was sure he'd mistake her for a ghost. He knew his Aunt Petunia took great pride in superficial things like her daughter's looks, so this change was shocking.
The summer before turning 11, Daphne started noticing a new set of talents. She could make things happen that she knew were supposed to be impossible. Her parents thought she was just bright, always knowing just what to study in order to make high marks on a test. But Daphne knew how far beyond that her abilities went. Strange things happened around her.
It was early morning in July, and the Dursley house was still quiet. The sun barely crept above the horizon, but Daphne Dursley was up and padding down the stairs. She wore a white dressing robe, the tile floor of the kitchen cold on her bare feet as she silently made her way out the garden door, being careful not to let it slam behind her. Today was the day that she wanted to really test what she could do.
She first noticed she could move things with her mind when she was being forced to participate in gym class. Dodgeball wasn't really her strength, she had a target on her back ever since she lost her former friend, Nancy Lipp. After Daphne started acting strange, Nancy swiftly dropped her from every sleepover, and the invite list from her parents' country club. All of her other friends who were really Nancy's friends, were now her adversaries. This made PE class awful, as Daphne found herself targeted by Nancy's gang. She often thought to herself that Nancy might get along with Dudley very well.
