Chapter 14: Thunderclap And Flash

"Hah?! So you're telling me to just forget about them is that it?!" he bit back angrily clenching his fists. "What kind of fucked up world is this if you won't even help the ones that need you? What kind of hero is that? Because where I come from, we don't leave them behind."

"World?" Inosuke confusingly frowned. "What does he mean by that?"

"I never claimed to be a hero. "Tanjiro sadly smiled as he looked down at his Katana. "Not with the things I've seen. Nor am I telling you to leave anyone behind. But the sad truth is...even if I want to help everyone... I know I can't. And as much as I want to save them like you say, how is killing demons any different? They kill, they hunt they use us without a second thought, but deep down they were all people at some point-humans. Humans who got turned into horrible creatures. Killing is killing so that doesn't make me a hero, nor do I want to be. All I want is for all this to stop. All the bloodshed, the needless killings...and to save my sister." Tanjiro could see the anger build up in Bakugos eyes as he stomped back over but momentarily paused when Tanjiro's face turned serious. "If you want to go back, then I won't stop you. Just promise me you'll be careful if you do Bakugo."

Slowly nodding Bakugo was about to turn to leave when he felt water being splashed on his face. "The fuck?!"

"Inosuke!" Tanjiros mouth dropped open when he saw his friend smugly standing in the water with his hands on his hips.

"You're dead!" Bakugos menacing glare had Tanjiro questioning who he should be more worried about.

"You don't scare me!" Inosuke proudly raised his chin as Bakugo took a dangerous step forward. "But you're seriously wanting to go back when the big baddies are close for the kill?! If you're just scared and wanting to wet your pants like Kurata back there-"

"It's Murata!" Tanjiro smacked his palm on his forehead.

"Yeah! If you're too scared to tag along with Manjiro and I, then just say so!"

"Tanjiro!" Tanjiro defeatedly raised his hand. "And Inosuke that's up to Bakugo to decide." He frowned before turning to the blond. "I'm sure we can handle this. You go check on your friends and make sure they're alright. We'll meet after we're done with this."

"Yeah, if you're too chicken..." Inoskue quietly taunted.

Clenching his fists Bakugo debated on what to do. What he should do. This wasn't their world, and they had no business fighting whatever demons that were here. All they needed to worry about was getting back home and getting back to their own life.

'Being a hero means putting others first...' he remembered All Might saying. He knew that. Hell they all did. That's what they went to UA for, so he had to keep reminding himself that despite them not belonging here they still had a job to do, and if it meant saving these people then that's what he'll do. And if Tanjiro was certain that taking out whoever was in charge on this mountain would help save them, then what other option was there?

"Damn it!" Roughly kicking the water, he crouched down and closed his eyes praying that the others were still alive.

Exchanging looks both Tanjiro and Inosuke silently watched as Bakugo absently stared at his reflection in the water.

"Inosuke..."

"Fine!" Muttering to himself about not understanding the sudden need to sit next to this stranger, Inosuke uncomfortably looked back at Tanjiro who egged him on with his hands.

Dropping down next to him, Inosuke copied Bakugos movements as he too stared at his own reflection. 'Alright I can do this...if Tanjiro can do it then so can I.' He thought and gave Tanjiro another glance. 'But what would he say?' Inhaling deeply, he turned to the other boy and patiently waited until Bakugo's eye twitched at the thought of being watched.
