Chapter 14: Thunderclap And Flash

"By the time this long hand goes around once, you'll have become one of the spiders. "When the needle arrives here..." the demon pointed one of his pointy legs towards the number one. "You'll start to feel a tingling feeling and pain in your limbs. When it gets to three, you'll also feel dizzy and nauseous..."

"Dude..." Kaminari frighteningly shook his head. "This is so wrong."

"By four you'll experience intense pain, and your body will start to shrink, and you'll black out. And by the time you wake up..." he grinned at Zenitsu's trembling form. "Well, let's just say that I'm sure your buddies over here will make a tasty appetizer."

"ARGHHHHHH!"

"APPETIZER?!" Both Zenitsu and Kaminari screamed while Kirishima began to swat the spider off him as Kaminari helplessly began to climb on him. "Not fair man! I wish I had your quirk right about now!"

"Trust me..." Kirishima kicked off another spider that tried to get to Kaminari since they couldn't seem to bite through Kirishimas hardening quirk, but he doubted it would last much longer. "It's not as easy as it looks. They're still people in there."

Zentisu on the other hand managed to cling onto a nearby tree and began climbing for his dear life.

"How did you get up there so fast?" Kirishima raises his head to see him desperadly clutching the tree.

"Experience!" Zenitsu shouted back.

"What do you think you're doing?" The Spider asked.

"Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!"

"There's no need to be afraid, once you turn into a spider you'll lose your humanity."

"Exactly! That's what I've been threading about all this! Why can't you get that through your head!" Tears began to freely fall from his eyes as Zenitsu covered his ears refusing to hear anything else that demon had to say. "Someone like you wouldn't have anyone special in their life, so you wouldn't understand!"

"Huh?" The demon angrily narrowed his eyes at the whimpering boy. "Maybe I should give you more poison and speed up the process for you!"

"No! Stay away from me I don't wanna turn into one of those things!" As tears streaked down his face, Zenitsu desperately continued to clutch onto the tree hoping this was all just a bad dream. Which was when he remembered a time before the demon slayer corp, before Nezuko, and before any of this was happening to him. A time when you would think that someone like him lived a normal life. But if truth be told... his life was never that simple.

'Get a hold of yourself! Stop crying and running away! Doing that won't get you anywhere!' He remembered those words like they were spoken just yesterday. And maybe they had. He remembered arguing everyday with his master who continued to try and push him to train knowing that Zenitsu had the potential to become something great. But despite that it seemed that one day nature had a mind of its own on how to get him down from a tree in the form of being struck by lightning. 'Getting hit by lightning. How unlucky can you get...?' he bitterly thought. 'That's when my hair color changed. I was thankful to be alive but...even so...I still hate myself more than anyone else. Always have.'

Crying, he knew it was pathetic of him to do so but nonetheless couldn't help it. Anyone else would probably have already tried and fought their way out like Kirishima and Kaminari continued to do below him. 'I'm sorry. I always try to get my act together, but I always end up cowering and running away in fear. I'm pathetic. I want to change. I want to be a capable individual like everyone else. But the fact is...' Shivering with fear he tried to muster whatever little courage he had as she shouted. "I'm doing everything I can, but I still have to be turned into some horrific spider creature! It can't be! Say it isn't true!"
