Actually boarding on the ship had probably been the biggest difficulty that day. His parents made the parting endlessly long, and he almost thought the ship for the island had already left. Yet there he was. Yros put his weight from foot to foot, waiting for the gates to open. He had been in front of the academy 5 minutes already. His parents had packed his luggage with so much stuff, his back was hurting already. Still, he couldn't complain about the lunch his dad had prepared him, even though it was probably half the weight in his suitcase.
He felt isolated. He was surrounded with students from all around the continent, and he didn't know most of the words they were saying. He didn't know anyone there at all, actually. It was his first day, and first year there. He often only looked at the school from afar, standing proud on the island opposite his, and now he was in front of that monster of a castle, more intimidated than fascinated. Still, it had always been his dream to be accepted in it. He wasn't gonna complain. He was just, you know, a bit nervous.
Suddenly the gates opened, and the school yard immediately flooded with students. From some speakers, a rusty deep voice greeted them.
"Welcome or welcome back to all of you. We ask the new students to move to the right side of the yard, where some guides will help them navigate the school. Everyone else knows what to do."
Everyone around him immediately began moving. He froze for a second, then sprinted to the right side as requested, where there were already groups forming, probably of people of the same magic type bonding. There stood four teachers, in front of the crowd of new students, patiently waiting for everyone to come.
He huffed and held his knees when he reached the designated destination. His suitcase was that heavy. After a good ten minutes, one of the teachers spoke up, and everyone else quieted down.
"Greetings all! I'm ms. Harper and I will be your science teacher. I am here with 3 of my colleagues, Taro, Jasper and Kyomi. We will give you a school tour today, along with a map of the entire building as not to get lost. Now, we're going to ask you to split into four even groups, so we can manage you better. Chop chop! We don't have all day."
It took 20 minutes or so to get everyone to get into even groups, but they got there. Yros ended up in the group with mister Taro, a tall slim man with purple hair and a crooked nose, always seeming to have a tired expression on his face. His bags are so deep it looks like eyeshadow, Yros thought. Not an insult, just an observation.
Mister Taro spoke up. "Alright kids, follow me and try not to get lost."
They ended up getting a tour of only the first two floors, since that's where the younger students were. When the tour ended, the group was ushered to the secretariat to get the keys to their dorms.
"Since it's the first day, you will get no classes today. Tomorrow though, the lesson will start at 8 in classroom B1. The entire timetable has been sent to you, so if you're confused, check there. Enjoy the rest of your day off."
With that, Taro motioned for the students to go, but they were already all either rushing to their dorms or going outside to explore the islands town.
Yros opted to go check his dorm first, settle everything and then check the town out.
To his pleasant surprise, his dorm was fairly close and in a sort of strategic position opposite the stairs. His way of settling his things was dropping the luggage on the floor, eating the lunch in his suitcase, grabbing some money and going outside. He hadn't seen his dorm mate yet, and figured they must've went outside to check the island out like the others.
As he stepped outside, the town was filled with students and people on vacation to. The. Brim. Nope. He stepped right inside and took a fat nap.
