Barely Functioning

Start from the beginning

It's such a ridiculous sight to behold that when Daadi Bua walks in, she has to double-check that she isn't having a waking fever dream about it all.

The poor lady gets a shock when she learns it is still Karishma Singh in front of her and not her identical twin.

KS lies to DB that her uniform is at the dry cleaners.

DB insists that she will take her shopping if she has nothing to wear, but begs her to at least reconsider her choice of shoes before she goes out in public.

Only, KS has no time to dwell on that when she gets a call from the thana with an emergency and runs out before DB can argue further.

KS gets to the station and handles the situation of the woman who didn't trust and wouldn't file a report with anyone other than SI Karishma Singh.

It went well, as far as she can tell.

Mostly she was distracted by the looks everyone was giving her in her attire. Especially Urmila, who refused to look away even when KS glared at everyone to stop staring.

Once the woman leaves, KS decides to corner the senior officer and figure out why.

Except, when they are alone, KS notices how frazzled she really looks.

Somehow, Urmila looked like she had even less time to sleep all night. And despite the fact that KS found her Haseena beautiful in any getup, even she had to admit, the tall officer appeared far more exhausted than KS felt herself.

She seemed like she was barely hanging on to consciousness and would collapse any minute.

"Aapki aakhon mein kaise gaddhe ban gaye hain, Maddam Sir!" KS observes in alarm. "Lagta hai Santu ne puri raat jagah ke rakha tha."

HM simply looks confused by the question. And KS understands it's probably because she looked no better in comparison.

Lucky for them, Santu (who had been hovering nearby) answers for her as she looks offended by the blame.

"Dark circles toh aapki ankhon mein bhi hain Karishma Madam," She retaliates in flow-flow.
"Aapko kisne jagah ke rakha tha?"

The two seniors nearly get a whiplash with how fast they turn to her.

Santu looks shocked at what she herself just implied. And KS's glare intensifies.

HM stares between her love and their masoomiyat. Not wanting this to escalate, she steps between them and blocks off her little sister from the fiery dragon.

"Woh ghar pe singhade khatam hogaye, toh yeh aaj aisi hi hai," Urmi defends at once, grabbing KS's attention and shooing away the young constable. "Tu iski baat per dhyan mat de, Hero."

Santu, with the little self-preservation she had left, runs away in time to avoid the backlash of her words.

"Iski masoomiyat ki hum-" KS growls, trying to find her target.

HM abruptly cuts her off and raises her arms in a calming gesture.

"Hum dono milke chutney bana deinge, okay?" Urmi finishes her threat for her and pulls her away from her revenge plotting. "Lekin baad mein. Abhi tu mere pe focus kar."

KS stops at once, doing as she's told.

Focus on HM. Nothing else mattered anyway.

HM smiles at her slightly dazed look and continues quietly, "Ab bataiye, aap puri raat kyun jaag rahi thin?"
