"Ugh, people come here to eat ice cream and *forget* about bullshit like this, why do they make us keep it on the news?"

Jamie looked up from the table he was cleaning to his coworker, Amy, then at the tv she was watching. He frowned at the news headline, which read that a famous lawyer in her town had been found dead last night.

"Oh jeez- poor guy had 2 kids too."

"It's weird they aren't giving us much detail.."

"You WANT details?"

"At least a murder weapon! or any idea as to who did it??"

Jamie rolled her eyes at her.

"Probably still being investigated then."

Amy grumbled and muted the tv, turning on music while they worked wordlessly.

5 minutes before closing, with still no more customers in sight, Amy stretched with a yawn.

"You can head out now if you want Jamie, we already got all the closing stuff done for the night, so all I really gotta do after 9 is take care of the registers and lock up."

Jamie looked up at her with a blink.

"are you sure?"

She nods at him.

"yeah!"

Jamie hesitates but nods back.

"alright... just call me if anyone creepy starts hanging around outside or something."

"like your roommate?"

Jamie groaned.

"dont remind me of him."

Amy pat his back.

"I'm sorry you have to live with that weirdo"

Jamie shrugged.

"eh, he pays his half of the rent on time, and I'm stuck in a lease with him now anyways so..."

"Just let me know if he touches you, he'll be the one on the news dead next if he does that."

Jamie chuckles.

"Will do, you have a good night."

Amy waved at Jamie as he opened the door to leave.

"You too!"

Jamie arrived back to his apartment after a short, thankfully uneventful walk, closing the door behind him with a sigh. Her eyes narrowed when she noticed her door open with the light on; she knew she had shut it before she left, and that she always kept the light off when she was gone. He approached the door carefully, pulling out the pepper spray he kept in his pocket when walking. She heard shuffling in the room, and pushed the door open slowly.

"TOM??" his roommate was awkwardly standing there, eyes wide.

"Oh shit Jamie you're home- uh.." Jamie stepped into the room, pointedly making sure the exit was clear so her roommate could leave.

"Just get out."

Tom scratched his head.

"I was just uh, looking f-"

Jamie raises a hand up, shaking his head.

"I don't want to hear whatever dumbass lie you have for this, just stay out of my room or else."

Tom scuttled out of the room, mumbling half-assed apologies as he did so. Jamie slammed the door shut behind him as soon as he went past the frame, and flopped onto her bed with an annoyed groan.
